The stages of this study included a review of national trends in scrapbook digitization, as seen in the Digital Public Library of America; a paper-prototyping-inspired, in-person user study; and an online survey of user preferences. The results of this research have enabled the implementation of clear guidelines at the University of North Texas for scrapbook digitization that accounts for the user experience rather than strictly relying on personal opinion or local librarian consensus. It was presented at the Visual Resource Association Annual Conference held on March 22-26, 2021.
Developing a Metadata Ecosystem at the UNT Libraries2021-04-04T17:52:02-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1777810/

Presentation for Drexel University's "Metadata Mixers" series describing some of the features and tools that UNT Libraries have been implementing for metadata creation and assessment in the Digital Collections and how they all work together to support metadata activities.
EPIC: A Proposed Model for Approaching Metadata Improvement2020-12-17T10:56:34-06:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1747971/

Abstract: This paper outlines iterative steps involved in metadata improvement within a digital library: Evaluate, Prioritize, Identify, and Correct (EPIC). The process involves evaluating metadata values system-wide to identify errors; prioritizing errors according to local criteria; identifying records containing a particular error; and correcting individual records to eliminate the error. Based on the experiences at the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries, we propose that these cyclical steps can serve as a model for organizations that are planning and conducting metadata quality assessment.
EPIC: A Proposed Model for Approaching Metadata Improvement2020-12-17T10:56:32-06:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1747970/

Presentation for the 14th International Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research proposing a model that delineates the components of metadata improvement as an iterative cycle, based on the work and experiences at UNT.
Organizational Practices: A Digital Repository's Perspective2020-08-17T22:11:34-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1706030/

This presentation examines collection organization and preservation from the perspective of The Portal to Texas History, a digital repository for cultural heritage and historic materials from across the state of Texas.
