The Gables - Marshall, Texas

Color halftone postcard printed on linen style paper of the Gables Cafe, Marshall, Texas, probably from the late 1930s or early 1940s. The one-story side-gable building has a small cross-gable entrance and an addition on the left side. A tall sign mounted on a single pole says "Gables Cafe." A shorter sign to its right is shaped like a woman wearing a long skirt holding one arm out, and the word "cafe" is legible on her apron. Printed on the sky part of the image is the title, "The Gables -- Marshall, Texas." Kahn Memorial Hospital, Marshall, Texas

Color halftone postcard of the Kahn Memorial Hospital, in Marshall, Texas. The image was probably taken in the late 1930's or early 1940's. The building was opened in 1928. The card is printed on linen style paper. A note on the back says "Our trip, 1934-1937," but the code on the front of the card dates it to 1942. The view shows the red brick hospital building of two-stories on raised basement, but most of the building is obscured by tree branches. Two people are sitting on a bench in front of the left portion of the building. Printed in the white border below the image is the title, "Kahn Memorial Hospital, Marshall, Texas," and the code "2B482-N." [Log and Stone Buildings in Caddo Lake State Park]

Photo-postcard of buildings in Caddo Lake State Park. A central building of stone masonry with a large chimney has log cabin wings on both sides. These buildings were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s according to designs by Joe W. Westbrook and Fred R. Carpenter. A handwritten note on the back is addressed to Mrs. Rosalie Newcomb in St. Louis, MO. It is postmarked Marshall, Texas, Aug 20, 1939.
