Administration Building, Bishop College, Marshall, Texas, 6-J-67

The brick building is two-stories, with a full-height porch with square columns across the two sides of the building shown in the view. The building is raised with steps leading up to the porch and entrance door. Trees frame the view of the building, and a grassy lawn is in the foreground, with a fire hydrant in the lower left of the image. At the bottom of the image in white letters is the title, "Administration Building - Bishop College - Marshall, Texas. 6-J-67." Bishop College was established in 1881 as a Baptist college for African Americans in Texas. The school moved to Dallas in 1961. The campus was sold the same year. Its buildings were demolished. There is no postmark or message on the back of the card. The format, quality, and number code are almost identical to another card in this collection with the publisher's name W. M. Cline Co., Chattanooga, printed on it, and this card was probably produced by the same company.

Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas, from around 1916. The view shows a grassy area in the foreground with a curving path and two trees. A man stands at the foot of one of the trees. The hospital appears to be a grouping of small residential-scale buildings with wood siding. The largest, on the left side of the card consists of two stories with a hipped roof and a cross gable roof extending on one side. A one story porch extends across the facade and part of one side. Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas. The image was probably taken not long after the building was opened in 1928, but this card was probably printed in the 1930s, based on the linen style paper. It was sent through the mails and postmarked on April 24, 1940. The view shows a drive in the foreground curving in front of the building. The building is a long horizontal two-story structure with a slightly projecting entrance section. Three automobiles are parked on the drive. Printed in the white border above the image is the title, "T. & P. Hospital, Marshall, Texas," and printed below the image is the code "2461-29." Printed between the message and address sections: "C. T. American Art, Reg. U. S. Pat. Off. Made only by Curt Teich Co., Inc., Chicago." The card is addressed to Mrs. Violet Swain in Austin, Texas.

Color tinted halftone postcard of the arrival of natural gas in Marshall, Texas, from Caddo Field. It is a dramatic nighttime view of a crowd standing in front of the Harrison County courthouse looking at a large flame atop a high gas standpipe anchored by wires to the ground. The caption at the bottom of the image describes the event: "Arrival of natural gas in Marshall from Caddo Field, May 24, 1909. Length of pipe line 25 miles, pressure 185 pounds. Marshall Gas Co., Marshall, Texas. Parker-Corti Photo." The postmark on the back is dated 1909, and the writer claims to have been among the crowd in the image. It is addressed to Mrs. John T. Black and white photo-postcard of Bishop Hall of Bishop College, Marshall, Texas. The 19th century brick building of three stories is five bays wide with the entrance door in the central bay with paired round arched windows above it at the second and third floor levels. There also is a small three-story wing attached on the right side. A one story porch with balcony above extends across the entrance and two windows on each side, and a small cupola stands on the ridge line of the roof. Trees frame the view of the building.
