Diary of Henry J. Durgin, Chief Bugler of the 1st N. H. Cavalry from Franklin, Louisiana, a leather-bound book with small paragraphs written under a typed heading for each day of 1864. Durgin served in the Civil War at Camp Ford.

Letter from Captain J. L. Halbert to his wife, Fanny Halbert, dated July 29, 1862, sent from Camp Daniel near Tyler, Texas. The letter describes the landscape of Camp Daniel, including a spring nearby, and gives some rumors regarding the happenings of the war (Civil War). Included with the original letter is a typed transcript.

Newspaper manuscript first published by Captain William H. May and Union soldiers while imprisoned at Camp Ford, in Tyler, Smith County, Texas. The paper was published for the purpose of "enlivening the monotonous, at times almost unbearably eventless life of Camp Ford" (J. P. Robbins, Preface to The Old Flag). Included is a work of fiction by D. K. Meigh entitled "High-Bird, or, The League of Blood! A Tale of the Mysteries and Miseries of Ford City, Texas," an obituary, and other various news and advertisements.

Photograph of Richard Wesley Prater as an old man with a white beard, standing in a doorway holding a broom on the porch of his home in Garden Valley, Texas. He appears to have been sweeping off the inside of a screened in porch, directing the dust outside and is smiling at the person who is taking the photo. The shades are partially pulled down and a bare light bulb can be seen hanging to the left of him. Richard Prater was born on September 20, 1848, in Texas and died on October 2, 1936, in Garden Valley, Texas.

Photograph of George Washington "Wash" Florence and his wife Beulah Mae Prater with their children Howell and Gus standing in front their home which was located at Garden Valley and Lindale Road in Tyler, Texas. The house had a breezeway running through the middle with what appears to be a fireplace on the left and possibly, the living quarters on the right. A full-length porch can be seen in front of the house and a separate building on the left. Wash made his living as a farmer until his death in 1919 due to Spanish Influenza. Beulah, left with two children, had to sell the farm and became a seamstress. She was the daughter of Richard Wesley Prater and Margaret Almeda Harpole. The library has more photos of the Prater family.

Portrait of Lorene Estelle Prater as a baby, wearing a white lace dress and sitting in an ornate chair. A handwritten note on the back of the photo states that she is the daughter of Dudley Green Prater. She was born January 13, 1900, in Garden Valley, Texas. Her mother was Eudora "Dora" Elliott.

Portrait of Richard Wesley Prater with a thick beard and wearing a suit and tie. Richard was a farmer living in Garden Valley, Texas, at the time this photograph was taken. He and his wife, Margaret Almeda Harpole, had twelve children.

Portrait of Terrell Milton Harpole wearing a suit jacket. A handwritten note on the back of the photo indicates that he was born in 1854, died in 1932, was married to Martha V. Copeland, and had five children.

Postcard of First Christian Church in Tyler, Texas and its pastor, J. J. Lockhart, addressed to Eld. M. A. Smith. A handwritten message on the front of the postcard says: "This man performed the marriage ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Smith."
