Boyer who is well known for having been responsible in a large measure during his four years in the legislature for the present retention of the medicinal permit law.

A form letter addressed to Other Medicinal Permit Holders of Texas, from City Drug, Inc., Perryton, Texas, (J. H. Brashears, President), dated October 19, 1940. Brashears advises of his support for the plan to protect the present law which permits druggists to dispense liquor by prescriptions under the medicinal permit law. He compels druggists to contribute $100 to the fund and recommends Mr. Max Boyer believing that much good will be accomplished through his endeavors and the other connections he has in Austin.

A form letter addressed to The Post or civic body, from Sidney C. Mason, Lieut. Col., 142nd Infantry, Adjutant General's Department, Austin. Acknowledgement of the receipt of the application to organize a unit of the Texas Defense Guard noting the issuance of a formal Letter of Approval has been delayed due to the volume of applications, due to the emergency work caused by the administration of the Selective Service Act and due to the pending mobilization of the Texas National Guard. Pending final approval, Mason authorizes Carswell to proceed with preliminary organizational work.

An appeal for support for a fund for the retention of the present law allowing druggists to dispense liquor through prescriptions. A letter addressed to Comrades, from Robert L. Murray, ASCAP, Thirty Rockefeller Plaza, New York, N. Y., dated November 29, 1940. Murray advises that all ASCAP music is to be barred from radio beginning January 1, 1941 and requests they write the Federal Communications Commission, have their Posts pass resolutions and send copies to their Senators, Representatives and Governors.

A form letter addressed to Brother Pastor from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, 24th Senatorial District Drys, dated December 20, 1940. Carswell reports on a meeting held on December 12 and advises regarding the enclosed Pronouncement of this meeting in dealing with the liquor situation. Carswell requests that the Pastors and their congregations join the cause and pledge to aid the 24th Senatorial District Drys in the fight against the sale of liquor for social drinking in Dry Territory. Whiteside acknowledges to Carswell the receipt of the application and reservation fee for his daughter's admission to Randolph-Macon advising that they will write regarding her credits after receipt of her high school transcript.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell ("Tommie"), Abilene, Texas, from Hunter M. Jones, Southland Life Insurance Company dated March 25, 1940. Jones advises Carswell that he "certainly did a grand job" as representative of the Alumni and Ex-students Association.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Mr. Tom B. Roberts, Mr. George S. Anderson and Mr. C. M. Caldwell, Abilene, Texas from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated September 27, 1940. Sandefer makes a request to the above addressed men to serve on a planning committee with Mr. Carswell as Chairman.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander Parramore Post, Abilene, Texas, from Sam Russell, District Judge, Stephenville, Texas, dated October 27, 1940. Russell acknowledges his receipt of the telegram sent by Carswell and accepts the invitation to address the Armistice Day Program if it is to be held during the day citing a previous engagement in Stamford that night.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post No. 57, The American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Sidney C. Mason, Lieut. Col., 142nd Infantry, Asst. to Adjutant General, Adjutant General's Department, State of Texas, Austin. Reply letter from Mason, advising of the compliance with Carswell's request of October 24; the companies commanded by Brownlee and Carswell have been eliminated but, in view of the forecasted attitude of the War Department, the application may be delayed. Enclosure includes: Personal note written to Mr. T. N. Carswell from Sid--Sidney C. Mason reminding Carswell of a time when Wilson Gunn, one bullsnake and the writer "had to do with you around the hallowed portals of old Cowden Hall". A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post No. 57, The American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Sidney C. Mason, Lieut. Col., 142nd Infantry, Adjutant General's Department, State of Texas, Austin, dated October 17, 1940. Mason acknowledges the receipt of the application for authority to organize units of the Texas Defense Guard. He suggests that Carswell modify the program to consist of three companies at Abilene and one at Merkel thereby making one complete battalion in that vicinity.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from N. F. Muir, Orthodontist, Roanoke, Virginia, dated December 11, 1940. Muir advises that a statement sent to Carswell three months back with regard to dental work for his daughter has not been paid.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, American Legion, Parramore Post No. 57, Abilene, Texas, from Norman S. Case, Acting Chairman, Federal Communications Commission, Washington, D. C., dated December 23, 1940. Case acknowledges the receipt of the letter from Carswell relating to the controversy between the ASCAP and the radio broadcast industry, and he expresses to Carswell the appreciation of the Commission for the benefit of having his views.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Clyde L. Garrett, House of Respresentatives, dated April 8, 1940. Garrett advises Carswell that he is soliciting his valued support and influence in the race for re-election to Congress.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated October 9, 1940. Connally acknowledges his receipt of the letter and enclosure from Carswell in which Carswell advises that his committee invited Chief Justice Hughes to speak at the inauguration of Dr. William Richardson White as President of Hardin-Simmons University. Connally advises that he will urge Hughes to accept the invitation and expresses his appreciation for the invitation from Carswell to attend the Armistice Day services, declines to make any definite engagements due to the pressure of his public duties but that he will advise if later he finds that he can attend.
