Typewritten at the bottom of the page is correspondence from Sarah Landes to Mr. Carswell instructing Carswell to close out his file on Subject OP 95040 but notes that Ohio wishes to be advised of the knowledge of the "whereabouts" of Subject, if secured.

A letter written to Dr. E. S. James, Editor of The Baptist Standard, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 10, 1958. Carswell discusses the attached editorial written by James, "Down with The Baptists" and addresses an inference that he finds unclear: "that our Baptist schools are in error when admission is granted to non-Baptists, and in admitting Baptists whose church record is amiss". Carswell advises of his disagreement with such a policy, of the effects of the possible application in the future. The article in question, which appeared in the January 1958 issue of The Baptist Standard, is attached, and includes the report regarding student protests at Wake Forest demonstrating against the convention for its ban on dancing on campus; condemnation of the action by Wake Forest trustees which allowed dancing on campus; praise regarding action taken by President J. C. Canipe; condemnation of students on any Baptist campus participating in unchristian demonstrations then presenting the theory these students are not Baptists which stems from schools accepting applicants from other denominations.

A letter written to "Miss Emma Patterson" (Mrs. J. F. Daugharty), Fargo, Georgia from T. N. Carswell, dated January 20, 1956. Carswell expresses his sympathy to Daugharty on the death of her husband and reminisces about the past and how he knew her. Attached is a newspaper article printed by the Clinch County News, Homerville, Georgia, with an obituary titled "J. F. Daugharty Dies At Age 83".

Barstow expresses his views on Americanism advising of the enclosed clipping regarding remarks he made to a group of newly naturalized citizens. The article in the clipping is titled "New Citizens: Devotion to Ideal, ' by Robbins W. Barstow, President Harford Seminary Foundation.

Shivers expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell expressing the confidence in his ability to serve the conservative cause advising that he could not consider a personal campaign of any kind at this time citing many family and business commitments.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Parramore Post No. 57, Abilene, Texas, from Allen Wight, Touchstone, Wight, Gormley & Touchstone, Dallas, Texas, dated January 20, 1941. Wight confirms that he is available to speak at the meeting and is "by no means a famous man" but, complying with the request by Carswell for a personal sketch, details his background: Born in 1889, a great grandson of Lyman Wight, who brought a colony to Texas in the days of the Republic; graduated Austin College in 1909 and spent 1912-1913 in Panama in the service of the Isthmian Canal Commission then engaged in building the canal; graduated the University of Texas (in Law) in 1915 and practiced law under Ellis Douthit in Sweetwater 1915-1917. "I went to the First Officers' Training Camp at Leon Springs in 1917; was commissioned captain, assigned to the Regular Army, going Overseas with the First Trench Mortar Battalion, which was engaged as Infantry at Chateau Thierry; operated two batteries of French Artillery at St. Miheil; and both operated as Infantry and used its Mortars in the Argonne. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell from Alvy R. Couch, Haskell, Texas, dated January 11, 1941. Couch expresses his appreciation for the opportunity to have seen and talked with Carswell. He advises Carswell that after their visit he went to see Mr. Duff and had a nice visit with him and others in the office. Mr. Duff had nothing definite at the time but informed Couch that they might have an opening within a short time. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Andrew Dilworth, Department Commander, San Antonio, Texas, dated January 17, 1942. Dilworth acknowledges his receipt of letter and membership progress report from Carswell, comments on the good numbers regarding the membership growth of the Legion then compliments Carswell and the other Legionnaires of that Division as doing a "swell" job.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Byron Bryant, Alumni Affairs, Hardin-Simmons University dated January 31, 1969. The Alumni Association makes a request of Carswell to be the permanent representative of the Class of 1911-12 of which he was the student association president and, also, a member of the Alumni Association Executive board. Notation handwritten by Carswell and dated February 4, 1969 indicates he did not respond to this letter.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from C. C. Beene, First Baptist Church, Breckenridge, Texas, dated January 7, 1946. Beene informs Carswell that Mr. J. W. Wash and he were in Abilene to see if he could help them "get an under-cover man to catch some of the boot-leggers in their town".

C., Manpower Division, State Headquarters for Selective Service, Austin, Texas dated January 14, 1944. Nalle advises the Chairman, in reference to a letter by Carswell dated January 10, that a registrant having been nominated for appointment as midshipman should be required to register and be classified IV-B.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from George B. Brown, Captain, F. A., Headquarters Forty Fifth Division, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, dated January 7, 1941. Brown advises Carswell that he is replying in the absence of General Key and that the application received from Carswell is being turned over to Col. Miller for his file and consideration.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post No. 57, American Legion, from L. P. Miller, Captain, A. G. D., Asst. Adjutant General, Headquarters Eighth Corps Area, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, dated January 3, 1941. Miller makes reference to the telegram sent by Carswell recommending Mrs. E. Lillius for army hostess at the Abilene Camp and advises that she will receive careful consideration when selections are made.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Lt. Col. Joe J. Miller by Wayne M. Roberts, Capt. 180th Inf. Ass't. P. O., 45th Division Canteen, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, dated January 13th 1941. Roberts acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell dated January 10th and expresses his appreciation for Carswell's efforts in behalf of the men of the 45th Division.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Carl, Department of History, The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, dated January 13, 1941. Carl advises that Lt. Col. Joe J. MIller was described by Professor Hassler as a man of very high quality. Carl commends the work Carswell is sponsoring describing it as "of the highest quality" then wishes for Carswell the greatest measure of success possible.

A letter written to Legionnaire Thos. N. Carswell, Fifth Division Commander, The American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Charlie Maisel, Department Commander, Phillips, Texas, dated January 19, 1943. Maisel advises that the weekly membership report shows Carswell's territory behind as compared to the same date last year and explains that the Department is ahead of last year, therefore, others are carrying his load. He offers the assistance of the Department Headquarters if needed.

A letter written to Tommy [T. N. Carswell] from Claude [Claude Lloyd], Peabody Hall, The Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire, dated January 7, 1932. Lloyd acknowledges his receipt of Carswell's letter and expresses his appreciation for the letter and the news about Simmons University commenting that he wonders how they get on with so little endowment in these hard times. He advises that he enclosed pictures of his daughters, Cynthia and Dorothy, and their mother, Dorothy. Lloyd explains that he is in the English Department at Exeter, now, because of the Harkness gift and that he makes twice his old salary "for half the work" that he did. Lloyd expresses his appreciation for the pecans and says he will go "all the way to Texas to get a persimmon". He sends his regards to Drs. Cooper and Olsen, Mrs. Carswell and Peggy, that he wonders much about George Paxton and Mildred Paxton.
