[Invitation to the Joint Session of the Literary Societies of the Sam Houston Normal Institute, Huntsville, Texas, May 26, 1900]
The three pages of this invitation and program are tied into a folded cover of linen paper. The front cover has intertwined raised initials, S, H, N, I (for Sam Houston Normal Institute), and above them is printed an image in red and blue ink of a Texas flag with the initials S.H.N.I. flying from the top of the flag pole. The first page within the cover is the printed invitation to the Joint Session of the Literary Societies of the Sam Houston Normal Institute, held in Memorial Hall, Huntsville, Texas, May 26, 1900. In the top left corner of the invitation page is a lithographic image by C. A. Wright, Philadelphia, that depicts a variety of scholarly and literary objects arranged on a cloth-covered table. The second page consists of the program for the event. The third page lists the names of nine literary societies: Lone Star, Athena, Baldwin, Houstonian, Philomathean, Eclectic, House, Ross, and Senate. Handwritten in ink on the back of the cover are the words "Mom's graduation program Mary McAlister McCutchan," probably written at a later date by her daughter-in-law Johnnie McCutchan.

Menu for the Gables Café in Marshall, Texas. It consists of one sheet of textured gray paper folded in half. The type is printed in green ink. The cover includes the name, its location, "Highways 43 and 59, South," that it was adjacent to the Burnett, Henderson, and Bel-Air Motels, that it provided room service to those motels at no additional cost, and that it was open from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. On the interior, in addition to providing food items and prices, it identifies "your hosts" as Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Elsberry. It also promises "organ melodies on the Hammond organ, 6:00 to 8:00 P.M." Prices range from 15 cents for a piece of pie to $4.00 for K. C. Sirloin for two. The menu is worn, with some bends, tears, and staining.

[Photograph Album and Scrap Book of Laurita A. Lyttleton, 1920-1922]
Nine disbound leaves from an album of Laurita Addison Lyttleton (later Mrs. John Hugh Hill), covering the years 1920-1922. The major part of the content is snapshots pasted on the pages of an album with printed headings. The photographs of Laurita and her friends are cut into a variety of shapes, and handwritten notes accompany the photos. Some of the photographs were taken in Marshall, where Laurita attended high school, and others are from her year (1921-22) at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA. Photos include many shots of girls posing or playing together, including wearing costumes for the 1922 New Year's Ball. It also includes the printed list of Randolph Macon freshmen, and a handwritten poem by Laurita about her 1920 high school class and a newspaper clipping about class spirit.

Business card for Arthur B. Chaffee, president of Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. On one side are black and white halftone photographs of buildings on the Bishop College campus: Marston Hall, Wolverton Shop, Bishop Hall, "The Mansion," and Morehouse Hall. On the other side is printed: "Rev. Arthur B. Chaffee, D. D., President." Written in pencil above Chaffee's name: "Nannie J. Brackens, Waxahachie, Tex @ home Olive, Tex." Bishop College was established in 1881 as a Baptist college for African Americans in Texas. The school moved to Dallas in 1961. The campus was sold the same year. Its buildings were demolished.

This pamphlet provides basic information about Sam Houston School, an elementary school in Marshall, Texas, for the 1959-60 school year. It includes the names of the teachers and the grades they taught, a history of the school, and a list of the school's principals and the years they served. It was intended for distribution to the parents of the pupils. The paper cover has a photograph of the school building provided by the Marshall New Messenger. On the back is a photo of the principal, W. H. Segraves. The text was reproduced by a spirit duplicator, and the purple ink has faded over time.

Hand-drawn map on card stock showing Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea. It was drawn by Mary McAllister in Marshall, Texas, for a school assignment. She signed it in the lower left corner and dated it May 5, 1893. Written in pencil in a different hand on the right side of the map is the grade 99 1/2. McAllister was born in June 1889 and would have been 12 years old when she drew the map. On the other side of the card is lithographed: "From M. A. Fine Merchant Tailoring, Sample No." with the number 2959 stamped next. Printed below that are names of different types of clothing with blank lines where the cost of constructing them in the sample fabric could have been filled in. Mary McAllister has written her name twice in pencil on that side of the card, and some additional letters are written on the top, possibly by her. The upper left and lower right corners of the card have been broken off.

Subscription receipt to A. S. Fields for 50 cents to pay for one month of the newspaper "The Daily Messenger" beginning June 1, 1892, signed by T. A. Ardis. An accompanying note by the dealer from whom the receipt was purchased states that A. S. Fields was a longtime Harrison County Clerk. Printed at the top left of the form: W. A. Adair, Proprietor. The receipt is a printed form with blanks for names and dates, which have been completed in pencil.

Menu for the Elsberry Café, Marshall, Texas. It consists of a cover, glossy black on one side, with gray letters printed on it. The list of offerings of the menu was printed with black ink on cream paper that was glued onto the back of the cover. On the cover, under the title of the menu, is the phrase "Just Good Food" and "Open 24 Hours." The location is given as 407 Pinecrest Drive East, Marshall, Texas. Inside the menu the hosts are identified as Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Elsberry. Categories listed include Mexican Foods, Sandwiches, Desserts, Omelettes, Steaks-Chops, Chicken, Sea Foods, Cold Plates, Cocktails [non-alcoholic ], Salads, and Specialty Italian Foods. Prices range from a slice of pie for 15 cents to an "extra cut sirloin-for two" for $5.00. Frog legs were priced at $2.00.
