"The principal object of this bulletin is to put into the hands of those interested in our native birds concise information as to the nature of the good or harm certain birds do on the farm and in the orchard. In order that friends may be distinguished from foes, a ready means of recognizing the several species is needed." -- p. 2

"This paper is descriptive of the improvement of an area of poor land by growing ordinary field crops under a system of farm management which aims at the incorporation of liberal amounts of organic matter in the soil as the chief factor in maintaining fertility and increased crop yields -- a practice which can not be too frequently brought to the attention of farmers. This system has produced greater returns to the farmer who practices it than any other system in use in his locality and will serve as an object lesson to many small farmers in all parts of the country." -- p. 2

"The purpose of this bulletin is to present practical methods of using canning outfits at home and out of doors in the canning clubs organized at school centers. It does not discuss the commercial or factory methods of canning, but is intended primarily to enable the girls on the farms to save many vegetables which now go to waste. "There are three essentially different ways of carrying out the curing [of tobacco]. These are (1) air curing, in which little or no artificial heat is applied; (2) flue curing, in which the tobacco is entirely cured by artificial heat and in such way as to prevent smoke from coming in contact with the leaf; and (3) fire curing, in which the tobacco is largely cured by artificial heat applied by means of open fires made on the floor of the barn, thus allowing smoke to come in contact with the leaf. It will be necessary to consider separately each of these methods, together with the modifications made in them in curing the various types of tobacco." -- p. 4

"It is generally recognized that the heaviest losses of livestock from poisonous plants occur in seasons when feed is short, but the intimate relation between such losses and the food supply does not seem to be appreciated at its full value. If it were understood and acted upon intelligently there would be much less complaint of harm done by poisonous plants." -- p. 2

These defects are: (1) bad flavors, (2) lack of uniformity in color and salt, and (3) unsuitable packages and no uniformity in the style of the packages" -- p. 5.
