Morrow acknowledges his receipt of the copy of Carswell's letter of September 1st that he wrote to Congressman Martin Dies describing it as a fine letter and expressing his appreciation for Carswell's interest. He then expounds upon the political situation of Senator Daniel and the unknown time of the special election which is causing the delay of his own announcement of intentions. He requests advice on the situation from Carswell and from others that are interested from his part of the state.

A statement of Wright Morrow, including a description of the action by the State Democratic Executive Committee at its meeting in Austin as a complete capitulation to the demands of the National Party and highly placed politicians. A letter written to Mr. John Camp, The Ohio Oil Company, Houston, Texas from T. N. Carswell, dated September 10, 1938. Carswell acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Camp and expresses his appreciation for the "spirit" of the letter. He writes, "I am checking out today and will begin Monday morning with my own business, wholesale paper."

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Lucie K. Whitehead, The Rice Hotel, Houston 2, Texas. Whitehead expresses her appreciation to Carswell for taking care of the payment of the income tax, advises of checks that have been enclosed and asks for the amount owed for his income tax services. Carswell noted that he answered on April 7, 1969.

A letter written to Mrs. William Peacock, Houston 6, Texas from Mrs. Aubrey Hethcoat, Social Case Worker, Big Spring State Hospital, Big Spring, Texas, dated June 6, 1962. Confirmation of the date for an appointment for Mrs. Carswell to go with Peggy and her father. Read by: Frankie E. Williams, M. D., Clinical Director.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from William Peacock, Sr., Houston Export Crating Co., Inc., dated March 11, 1968. Peacock advises that Carswell is most welcome to use two places in their family burial plot in Houston.

Wisdom expresses his appreciation for Carswell's "gracious" letter regarding his finding an opportunity to offer his services "to our boys" advising that he will train in N. Y. then be reassigned. Requests of Carswell to give his regards to the "old 17th".

A form letter addressed to Buddies--TO ALL LEGIONNAIRES, DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS, from Sam D. Forman, Jr., Department Commander, The American Legion, Department of Texas, Houston, Texas, dated August 3, 1944. Forman reminds the Legionnaires of the housing conditions and that things are abnormal in Fort Worth, the same as in any other city in the Nation due to the war effort, and to make all reservations with Mr. Herbert Joseph, Chairman of the Housing Committee.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated October 17, 1956. Morrow expresses his appreciation for the compliments by Carswell on his ideas. Offering his viewpoint of the constitution Morrow states, "The real genius of our government, in my opinion, is the recognition of the paramount importance of the individual". He exposes the differences between "our" democracy and other nations that call themselves democracies: "This is the real difference between us and the other nations that call themselves democracies because no where else in the world is there such a reservation of power in the people themselves and such a recognition of the significance of the individual man and woman." He makes referrence to Weatherred and advises of the probability of a new governor making an appointment to the vacant Senate seat.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from W. H. Francis, Jr., Chairman Texas Eisenhower Campaign Finance Committee, Houston, Texas, dated December 4, 1956. Francis expresses his appreciation for the very generous contribution by Carswell to the Eisenhower campaign.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated December 27, 1956. Morrow expresses his appreciation for the copy of Carswell's letter written to Senator Daniel in regards to the vacated Senate seat and for his interest. He offers the season's greetings.

Morrow discusses the history of his possible candidacy and advises that he prefers to withhold any final announcement until the legislative situation clears up or until he can study all the factors involved. A Western Union telegram sent to T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated March 2, 1957. Morrow informs Carswell of his decision not to enter the race for the U. S. Senate seat advising that he will write and express his appreciation for Carswell's interest and help.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Geo. W. LeVan, Division Head, Humble Oil & Refining Company, Houston 1, Texas, dated June 17, 1954. LeVan confirms the execution of a Division Order by Carswell covering oil purchased from the LUCY M. COLEMAN tract and advises of an enclosed amended Division Order to be executed and returned promptly to avoid delay in the settlements for June oil.

A letter written to Mr. Morrow, from T. N. Carswell, dated September 27, 1956. Carswell advises Morrow of his having talked to several people about his possible candidacy for the U. S. Senate to succeed Senator Daniel. He advises Morrow that most of those people he spoke with have worked as a unit, generally supporting Price Daniel for Governor, but advises that Mr. Daniel's hold on the party is now a tenuous one.

A letter written to Mr. Morrow, from T. N. Carswell, dated October 15, 1956. Carswell discusses the prospective senatorial candidacy of Morrow and provides for him a list of friends and aquaintances. He advises Morrow to write to each a personal letter telling them of his prospective senatorial candidacy. Carswell promises, "I shall do all I possibly can to accomplish your election to the U. S. Senate in the firm belief in so doing I shall have served well my state and nation."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from John Camp, The Ohio Oil Co., Houston, Texas, dated September 8, 1938. Camp notes his surprise at Carswell's retirement as Secretary of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and expresses his regret for the City's loss stating that in his opinion Carswell "as Secretary, contributed more toward the welfare of the town than any other citizen", and wishes him success in his new business.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Mary Lou Weatherford, Drilling and Exploration Company, Inc., Houston 2, Texas, dated July 23, 1953. Weatherford acknowledges the receipt of the letter from Carswell containing a check for reimbursement for a rose for Peggy. She advises of her enjoyment in doing that favor for him noting that Peggy is a fine girl and well thought of there.

A letter written to Miss Mary Lou Weatherford, PBX Operator, Drilling and Exploration Company, Houston, Texas from T. N. Carswell, dated July 14, 1954. Carswell requests a favor from Miss Weatherford, like last year, regarding purchasing flowers and a card for his daughter's birthday, Peggy Carswell, "who works there with you at D & E".
