The book on the left is Our Little Life [Nasha malenkaia zhizn'] by Don Aminado, which is the pseudonym for Aminad Petrovich Shpolianskii (1888-1957). The book on the right is Population of the Soviet Union [Naselenie SSSR} by P.G. Pod'iachikh.
