KM Practices - Motivational Structures within Tax and Legal Knowledge Management (open access)

KM Practices - Motivational Structures within Tax and Legal Knowledge Management

This presentation deals with motivational ideas and initiatives for knowledge sharing in the field of tax and legal consulting. Sharing knowledge at all levels and in all formats is often difficult or even impossible due to the need to respect confidentiality and data protection laws. However, the example of PwC Switzerland shows how it is still possible to be a knowledge organization, to create a lively and popular exchange between employees and not to reinvent the wheel every day. We will also shed light on what a well-positioned knowledge management can enable in a crisis situation and how it has moved from behind the scenes to the stage. PwC Switzerland is the leading audit and advisory company in Switzerland. We’re a network of firms in 156 countries with over 295,000 people who are committed to delivering quality in assurance, advisory and tax services. PwC Switzerland has over 3,380 employees and partners in 14 locations in Switzerland and one in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Oral History Interview with A. R. Evans (open access)

Oral History Interview with A. R. Evans

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral monologue by A R Evans. Evans was the coastwatcher on Kolombangara who facilitated the rescue of the PT-109 crew, led by John F. Kennedy. One of his scouts noticed a fire on the water at night and saw an unidentified object floating the next day. Evans, having been informed that PT-109 was missing, instructed his scouts to search for crewmen. Two natives encountered the crew, who for want of a common language carved a message on a coconut to be delivered to Evans. Evans met Kennedy that afternoon and dispatched a message coordinating his safe return. When Evans visited the White House in 1961, he found a framed copy of the dispatch and the carved coconut in the Oval Office.

Heading for 100 % renewable urban transport: Policy recommendations (open access)

Heading for 100 % renewable urban transport: Policy recommendations

The brochure promotes urban transportation policy to increase the use of renewable energy to 100%. Seen globally, transport is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Yet fossil fuels are becoming scarce, will become increasingly expensive and will eventually stop being viable as transport fuels. Before this happens, climate change will have begun to have a serious impact on human lives. The authors believe that it is crucial to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy as soon as possible, especially in the transport sector. Making urban transport independent of fossil fuel is a great challenge, but the authors cite growing evidence that it can be achieved.
