This play is a translation of a play performed by artists of Roop Raag at Rupmahal Theater on February 20, 1966. In Crimson Rainclouds, a Manipuri play from the 1960s, an artist determined to uphold his freedom is torn between his two loves, both only too gentle in their demands, and yet deeply caring. A sensitive man, he chooses art, knowing full well that he lets them down. While Indu would like him to change his lifestyle just a little bit, for recognition and comfort, Keinatombi would be happy to give him the little care and comfort that she thinks he needs for his art. For the time being at least, Gautam would go with her. The play draws on the playwright’s interactions with Ramkinkar Baij (1906-80), the eminent sculptor, with whom she studied in Santiniketan, and who has left behind a whole suite of sculptures and paintings of Binodini. This Manipuri Learning Module is a group of interlinked language, linguistics, literature and AV components based on Asangba Nongjabi, a modern Manipuri play by M. K. Binodini Devi. It is designed to be a learning tool for English-speaking, non-Manipuri scholars and students to learn Manipuri, while gaining insight into Manipuri culture and society with a classic of modern Manipuri literature. The House of Narasingh Genealogy Tree is a component of The Jalakeli Project, a web-based, women’s oral histories initiative in Manipur, India. As only women of the House of Narasingh are admitted into the two choirs of the Shree Shree Govinda Jiu Jalakeli Pala, the House of Narasingh Genealogy Tree is designed to help the Pala members keep track of familial relations in the lineage of the king. It seeks to preserve their oral genealogical information as data.

He throws stones at them but is unable to retrieve the hats, so he throws his own hat onto the ground. Imitating him, the monkeys throw down their hats, and the vendor is unable to retrieve them.

Transcription of a retelling of Svang nao le sraa nao paomin (the Story of the Rich Boy and the Poor Boy), as told by Bunghon Suungnem. The parents of five sons used up all their wealth purchasing brides and so have nothing to bequeath to them. The father tells them to obey the eldest son and work together to dig up 500 rupees he had buried and distribute it equally. After a few months of digging they are unable to find it, so they ask the eldest son what to do. He has them level the field, draw new boundaries and cultivate it. He assigns the highest plot to the youngest brother, then the next to the next-youngest, and so on. Their neighbors include two lazy men who never work, but live off their wives. One wife tells her husband (the less lazy of the two) to go fishing. Instead of fish, he brings back some gold he finds in the water, and threatens to beat his wife if she does not cook it. She exchanges gold for food and clothing. The other neighbor and his wife do not prosper, as the husband refuses to work.

Transcription of retelling of Raal ki paomin (Invading the Village Haika) told by Shetwor Dilbung, in which we get an account of how the Kuki (Khungsai) people invaded the village Haika to take revenge on a Lamkang man for killing a Kuki woman. At the time of the invasion, the people of Haika were celebrating the Merit Feast (Totlang). When the attack was announced, people at first did not believe it.
