Inside the frame are three pressed edelweiss flowers which have stems that have been discolored with time. At the top is a label for ownership. Mrs. N. H. Dole is likely Helen B. Dole who was one of the translators of the novel "Heidi" by Johanna Spyri from German to English. On the paper backing is illegible, faded text.

Little Julia, resident of New York City, is taken to see her uncle's farm. Exposed to fields, animals, and the open spaces, she regrets having to return to the city. Back home, she wants to run away and return to her uncle's farm. Against her mother's orders, she does run away one day, but is found and brought home, and learns never to disobey her mother again.

The cover only has the book's title and an illustration of a branch of an evergreen tree with long thin needles. Early edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri, translated by Helen B. Dole. The cover of the book is made of a light green fabric with darker greens for the title, names, and illustrations. The illustrations on the title are in two parts, one which is flowers is boxed in with the title and the names of the author and translator. The other illustration is set above the title in another box and shows a forest of evergreen trees in front of some mountains. Nestled in the trees is a small cabin. On the title page is the title of the book as well as the names of the author, translator, and publishers. Also on the title page are notes handwritten in faded pencil about the illustrator and publisher. On the opposite page is a black and white illustration captioned: The hut of the Alm-Uncle." In the illustration is a small cabin tucked into a grove of tall evergreen trees. Sitting on a bench outside of the cabin is an old man holding a stick.
