[Marshall Texas Post Office February 26, 1940]

Photograph of the Marshall, Texas post office building taken by the Cowdin Brothers construction company of Dallas as part of their work on the building in 1940. Built in 1912, the post office received an addition and improvements in 1940. As noted in the Marshall News Messenger of 21 January, 1940, the work included enlargement of the lobby space, addition of new mail boxes, and enlarged work space. The building permit for the project was $71,000. Cars are parked in front of the building, a metal trash bin with triangular top is on the sidewalk, Army recruiting signs are standing on the corner of the lawn, and two piles of construction dirt are at the side of the building. A man is standing on the sidewalk and appears to be blind, holding a white cane, wearing a sign around his neck, and holding a tin cup in front of him. Typed on the back of the photograph: "Marshall Texas Post Office, February 26, 1940. This view from the center of intersection of So. Washington St. and the South side of the Square looking Southeast was taken same day progress report was made. Contractor: Cowdin Bros., Dallas, Texas. Rob't. E. Sellers, …

Group photograph of 24 students dressed in costume taken in front of the entrance to the South Marshall School. They wear costumes intended to represent Indian, or Native American, clothing. The skirts and shirts have fringe at the bottom. The students wear headdresses with feathers, and they hold their arms crossed projecting forward from their shoulders. Written in red ink on the back: "South Marshall Elementary, Marshall, TX, mid 1940s."

Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas. The image was probably taken not long after the building was opened in 1928, but this card was probably printed in the 1930s, based on the linen style paper. It was sent through the mails and postmarked on April 24, 1940. The view shows a drive in the foreground curving in front of the building. The building is a long horizontal two-story structure with a slightly projecting entrance section. Three automobiles are parked on the drive. Printed in the white border above the image is the title, "T. & P. Hospital, Marshall, Texas," and printed below the image is the code "2461-29." Printed between the message and address sections: "C. T. American Art, Reg. U. S. Pat. Off. Made only by Curt Teich Co., Inc., Chicago." The card is addressed to Mrs. Violet Swain in Austin, Texas.

Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Marshall, Texas

Black and white photo-postcard of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 414 N. Washington Ave., in Marshall, Texas, taken sometime in the 1940s. The building was constructed in 1932. The view is taken from the southwest and shows the facade and the south side of the building. The two-story brick building with raised basement has two entrances on either side of a central section with a front facing gable roof. Stairs lead to each entry on the main level. The central portion has stained-glass windows on first and second floor levels. An automobile is parked in front of the building. Bushes have been planted on either side of the entrance stairs and along the south side of the building. At the bottom of the image in white letters is the title, "Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Marshall, Texas." The Marshall Church of Christ now uses the building. There is a postmark dated Sep 23, 1942 on the back. The card, signed by Nell King, was addressed to Bobby Nelson, Omaha, Nebraska.

It has three stories and a basement. This building replaced an earlier city hall that burned. Automobiles are parked beside and in front of the building. [Swimming Pool, City Park, Marshall, Texas]

Color halftone postcard on textured linen paper showing the swimming pool in the city park of Marshall, Texas. The actual pool, which opened in June of 1938, is not visible, but the view shows the terraced lawn around it, two buildings that probably were the filter house and the changing rooms, and part of a chain-link fence. Up another terraced slope to the pool's left is a log building that was constructed in 1939 as the NYA Community Center. Walls, stair rails, and a light post made of rocks are shown, as well as plantings of flowers in front of the wall. Much of the landscaping and the rock walls and steps were constructed with WPA funds. Printed in the border below the image is the title, "Swimming Pool, City Park, Marshall, Texas. 2B481-N" Printed on the back between the message and address sections is: "Genuine Curteich Chicago, 'C.T. American Art" Postcard (Reg. U. S. Pat. Off.)" The postmark on the back of the card is dated Apr 27, 1946. The typed message is from Eleanor Greene and addressed to Mrs. Alice Holden, Dallas, Texas.
