He then moves near to Mr. Akhlaque to enquire about this. Mr. Jameel then joins the conversation and adds his opinion on the ongoing topic.

This is a conversation in (Pharaī) Chāndpūr village situated in the Maū district of UP, between Irfan Ahmad Usmani, Maaz Shaikh and his uncle Saeeduz Zafar Ali. The children seeing the researcher and Mr. Tauqeer, try to escape but Mr. Tauqeer asks them to stay at their places. He then starts questioning an incident that took place the previous night wherein police arrived at the village and fined someone who was fishing illegally.

After that, Mr. Musafir arrives, and Mr. Aquil discusses the various farm produce in recent years and the required efforts and challenges involved. Then he asks Mr. Musafir to share his personal accounts with the researcher. Mr. Aquil too shares his personal experiences from the past. Later on, they both talk about political issues.

This is a video recording of a monologue by eight year old Yusuf. He can be seen imitating the Far-north or Dewārā (floodplain) variety of the Northern dialect of Azamgarhi spoken in Mehrā, his mother’s village. Drawl is a stereotypical feature of that variety. Those speakers are often mocked by other speakers of Azamgarhi for their highly prolonged vowels.

This study is the very first detailed description of the (finite) verb morphology in Azamgarhi, a unique Awadhic Indo-Aryan language spoken exclusively by a significant number of Muslims of the Azamgarh region of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a part of a broader goal of holistic and comprehensive documentation of the Azamgarhi language, filling a gap in the descriptive literature, beginning with a detailed discussion on the social and linguistic background of the language in question and then moving to discuss the morphology of verb stems and their uses. The data presented here is based on analysis of elicited and textual materials from mainly the Southern dialect. Azamgarhi verbal morphology constitutes derivation and inflection.
