Photograph of flood damage caused by overflow waters of Cottonwood Creek. Over 5 blocks of Highway # 33 in Guthrie, Oklahoma were covered by water for 12 hours, causing approx. 100 families to leave their houses. Enormous damage was done to crops, soils, highways and bridges and other public and private property. Buildings on the left belong to the Mid-Continental Petroleum Company and tracks of the railroad spur and yards in the background. OK-8327.

Cotton will average ¾ of bale per acre and the cooperator says he would not have made more than ½ bale per acre without the terraces. Mr. C. H. Lewis is picking peas between corn rows. OK-8261.

Photograph of Rhodes Grass Pasture Planted. Planted in 36 inch rows in 1939. This area has been mowed for hay twice this year, has been lightly grazed and is now almost ready for the third cutting. A complete cover has been attained. Absence of weeds is a result of mowing and proper management of the pasture. TX-40, 534.

Photograph of a squatters' shack on 40 acres of land belonging to a firm of investment brokers. Tenants say they have cut 1000 pine poles from adjoining fields in the last two or three months. Two men cut about 20 cross-ties a day. High quality timber is thus being wastefully cut. With proper care this timber would provide high-grade, salable building material. This tract will revert to McCurtain County and will go on resale in May, 1941. OK-8140.

Photograph of Severe gullying of roadside channels has been halted by sloping and sodding the banks and sodding the slopes to Bermuda grass. Work completed last part of June, 1940. Roadsides are now being utilized for terrace outlet channels. When work was started, the gullies on each side of the road were cutting back into the fields and damaging the fence. Yukon Camp.
