[Card for Rev. Aarthur B. Chaffee with Images of Bishop College Buildings on the Other Side]

Business card for Arthur B. Chaffee, president of Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. On one side are black and white halftone photographs of buildings on the Bishop College campus: Marston Hall, Wolverton Shop, Bishop Hall, "The Mansion," and Morehouse Hall. On the other side is printed: "Rev. Arthur B. Chaffee, D. D., President." Written in pencil above Chaffee's name: "Nannie J. Brackens, Waxahachie, Tex @ home Olive, Tex." Bishop College was established in 1881 as a Baptist college for African Americans in Texas. The school moved to Dallas in 1961. The campus was sold the same year. Its buildings were demolished.

Henderson's Garage, Marshall, Texas

Black and white halftone postcard showing Henderson's Garage in Marshall, Texas, located on the south side of the square, west of the city hall. The service bays were inserted into an older one-story brick masonry building. The two open bays have a sign above them saying "Auto Repair Shop" and a smaller sign between them saying "Gasoline 10 cents." The third bay is closed with a bench in front of it, and the fourth bay has the sign "Accessories" above it. Above all four bays a projecting corrugated iron canopy has "Ford" painted in large letters on it. "Henderson's Garage" is painted on the brick wall above the canopy and a separate commercial sign saying "Henderson's Garage" is mounted on top of the brick facade wall. Printed at the top of the image in red ink is the title "Henderson's Garage, Marshall, Texas." Printed on the left edge of the back: "39288 - Frey Wholesale Post Card Co., Pubs., Dallas." The card is addressed to Mrs. John Eguer, Garfield, Minn.

[Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor Display Window]

Photograph of elaborate decorative display window of the Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor. At the base of the window approximately 50 small bottles of Welch's grape juice are arranged with three dolls behind and larger bottles of Welch's juice. More smaller bottles are on a glass shelf behind and above with decorative paper figures of children drinking juice and an arrangement of artificial grapes and grape leaves. The name Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor is painted on the glass of the display window. Impressed in the bottom of the mount board is the photographer's name: Cockrell Studio, Marshall, Texas. Two yellow paper notes have been stuck on the back by the seller confirming the subject and one of which gives the estimated date of ca. 1910. The Marshall Candy Kitchen is listed in the 1912 Marshall city directory.

[Marshall Texas Post Office February 26, 1940]

Photograph of the Marshall, Texas post office building taken by the Cowdin Brothers construction company of Dallas as part of their work on the building in 1940. Built in 1912, the post office received an addition and improvements in 1940. As noted in the Marshall News Messenger of 21 January, 1940, the work included enlargement of the lobby space, addition of new mail boxes, and enlarged work space. The building permit for the project was $71,000. Cars are parked in front of the building, a metal trash bin with triangular top is on the sidewalk, Army recruiting signs are standing on the corner of the lawn, and two piles of construction dirt are at the side of the building. A man is standing on the sidewalk and appears to be blind, holding a white cane, wearing a sign around his neck, and holding a tin cup in front of him. Typed on the back of the photograph: "Marshall Texas Post Office, February 26, 1940. This view from the center of intersection of So. Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas, from around 1916. The view shows a grassy area in the foreground with a curving path and two trees. A man stands at the foot of one of the trees. The hospital appears to be a grouping of small residential-scale buildings with wood siding. Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas. The image was probably taken not long after the building was opened in 1928, but this card was probably printed in the 1930s, based on the linen style paper. It was sent through the mails and postmarked on April 24, 1940. The view shows a drive in the foreground curving in front of the building. The building is a long horizontal two-story structure with a slightly projecting entrance section. Three automobiles are parked on the drive. Color tinted halftone postcard of ca. 1907-1915 showing the Hotel Marshall, Marshall, Texas. It is a straight facade view with parts of the neighboring buildings visible. The hotel's three-story building has a sidewalk canopy across the full facade with multipaned clerestory windows above the canopy. A fire escape on the second bay from the right leads from the third story to the canopy and has a ladder from the third story to the roof.
