Acknowledgement of the receipt of the letter from Carswell regarding the application for Full Pardon by Subject 121,140. Blackburn advises Carswell that Mr. White is out of the office but that the letter will be held for his prompt attention upon his return.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wm. A. Blakley, Dallas 2, Texas, dated December 31, 1957. Blakley expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell, his regret in not being able to work out a speaking date at present, and his agreement with Carswell regarding the character and conduct of their mutual friends Ed Drake, Hugh Prather and Mrs. Cullen Thomas.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Mrs. Leslie N. Brown, Office Supervisor, B & B Parkway Food Stores, Abilene, Texas, dated December 1, 1953. Brown advises Carswell of their inability to accept a check to cover the forgery check and suggests that Carswell contact the District Attorney regarding the check. She invites Carswell to visit them and see their new offices and advises him that her parents, the W. H. Bryants, are now located in Nocona, Texas and doing a little oil prospecting.

A form letter addressed to a parolee from Abilene, Texas from Walter A. Gordon, Chairman, Adult Authority (by E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority), Sacramento 14, California, dated December 31, 1951. Burkhart informs Subject that his application for Commutation of Sentence has been referred by the Governor to the Adult Authority for review and recommendation. The letter advises of assistance to be given from their office in preparing said application and provides a list of requirements pertaining to the preparation of the application.

A handwritten report providing background data including events and dates regarding Subject No. 17095 including the notation advising that Governor Knight would consider a new application in October of 1955.

A Christmas message from T. N. Carswell sent with flowers to The Charles Barnes home in Abilene, Texas. A short story written by Carswell about the "Barnes clan" starring Charlie and Katherine and their grandchildren Debby, Beverly, Kathy, Teressa and Patty. His story sets a scene representing the joy of grandchildren at Christmastime. The reverse side includes business letterhead of ABILENE Machine Company, Telephone OR2-3861, 1334-42 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas, and bears a Fox River Bond watermark.

A letter written to Governor Shivers, from T. N. Carswell, dated Christmas, 1959. Carswell requests that Shivers return to politics and lead a campaign to take the government out of the hands of organized interests and restore it to all the people. Carswell expresses his perception of the current government by quoting Roger Q. Mills: "I feel like a stranger in a banquet hall, deserted: Whose lights are fled, whose garlands are dead, And all but he departed."

A letter written to Bill and Jack and George from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell advises that Christmas time made him reminisce then advises of the number of acts of friendship and helpfulness of their Dads in the tasks he was privileged to carry on. He pays a tribute to Bill, Jack and George for the really fine and outstanding way that they have carried on the business operations left in their care.

A letter written to Bill Fulwiler from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell advises Bill due to Christmas making him reminisce that he wrote to expresses his appreciation for W. J. Fulwiler, Bill's father, for his friendship and leadership in the building of Abilene during the years Carswell served [at the Abilene Chamber of Commerce]. He commends Bill on the exemplary way that he and Harry have carried on the multiple interests of W. J.

A letter addressed to the Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Chairman dated December 11, 1953. Copy to Mrs. Breeding [Hattie Breeding], Dallas. Carswell requests the reinstatement of the parole status of Subject 108,345 to the date established prior to its revocation. Carswell explains his recommendation while detailing the parole history and the apparant "about-face" of Subject.

A letter written to Don Wooten from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell expresses his appreciation for "the splendid way" that Don has handled the substantial interests entrusted to his care noting his Dad [H. O. Wooten] and Mother were in Simmons when he enrolled there and that his Grandfather was one of his good and helpful friends.

A letter written to Dr. James, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 18, 1959. Carswell expresses his appreciation for the position James took on the Texarkana Hospital proposition otherwise Texas Baptist would have joined others asking for government financing for operations of their denomination. He notes the appointment of a special committee to define the Baptist position with reference to the separation of church and state and of his disappointment should there be any relaxation in the "age old Baptist position of complete separation of church and state", that it may be hard to adhere to the principle "in this day when there is such a widely held idea that it is the business of the government so to do".

A letter written to Mr. George S. Anderson from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell expresses his appreciation for Anderson, for his example and friendship over the years.

A letter written to Governor Coke Stevenson, from T. N. Carswell, dated Christmas 1959. Carswell expresses his appreciation for the service that Stevenson rendered to the people of Texas during his years of public service. Carswell remembers their "casual" acquaintance during the years he was Manager of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and the help from Stevenson with the extension of U. S. Highway 83 South to Brownsville.

A letter written to Governor Price Daniel, Governor-elect, Liberty, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 14, 1956. Carswell recommends to Daniel the name of Wright Morrow of Houston to take his place in the Senate until an election is held.

A letter addressed to Governor Knight, Sacramento 14, California, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board dated December 2, 1953. Carswell requests a telephone conference regarding the recommendation of a commutation of sentence for Subject No. 17095 which has not yet been acted upon. A handwritten notation by Carswell indicates having read a reply given to Subject from Governor Knight advising that Governor Warren had turned down the request before he left office December 3, 1953.

A letter written to Governor Shivers, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 5, 1953. Carswell advises that he has enclosed a news story of a Democratic (so-called) meeting held in Abilene. He advises Shivers that to carry on they must have him and another good man as candidates for Governor and U. S. Senator emphasizing that "Texas and the Nation are in need of you!"

A letter addressed to John Ben Shepperd, Secretary of State, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated December 1, 1951. Carswell advises regarding correspondence received from the Governor's office in California that indicates forms were missing in the application referenced. He further advises that the forms would have been misplaced either in Shepperd's office or in California.

A letter written to Mr. John Wright, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, City, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 16, 1957. Carswell requests that Wright's Committee sponsor a gathering for Mr. Walter Hammond of Tye, Texas, a "returning home" recognition and appreciation of his many years of service to farmers of Texas and the nation.

A letter written to Mr. Jay from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell advises that "this season of the year inclines one's memory to delve into the realm of gratitude" and then expresses his appreciation "of having enjoyed the privilege" of his friendship.

A letter written to "Mugs" from T. N. Carswell, dated December 23, 1957. Carswell advises that due to reminiscing at Christmastime he is writing to show his gratitude for the kindness and friendships of Mugs' Dad and Mother, Grandfather and Grandmother, expressing his gratitude to Mugs in their absence and wishing for him a Merry Christmas.

A letter written to a parolee in El Paso, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated December 26, 1956. Carswell acknowledges receipt of letter from Subject advising that the transfer has been completed and closes by offering his hope that Subject will be "better pleased" in El Paso.
