He advises that the cold spell is causing slowed business, that the snow is not damaging the crops but did kill the fruit and gardens and then dangles a few remarks regarding a business deal he made assuring that he will hold a part of it for Carswell if he is interested.

Carswell explains to Rather that while he was working in Goldthwaite he noticed a decline of the Post so he worked to renew interest in the Legion and advises that he is enclosing a check with a list of twenty-eight names of the present membership of the newly-organized Harry F. Edmondson Post No. 289 at Goldthwaite, Texas, and requests receipts and membership books to be sent to the new members. "All of the men on this list save one, is an old Legionnaire. Lewis F. Eubank is a veteran of War II."
