[Portrait of Margaret Almeda Harpole Prater]

Portrait of Margaret Almeda Harpole with gray hair and wearing a black dress. A handwritten note on the back of the photo identifies the woman and notes her date of birth as March 31, 1857 [this date cannot be true for two reasons: in the 1860 census she is listed as being nine years old, which makes more sense for her age at time of marriage: 17 instead of 11]. She married Richard Wesley Prater in 1868. Margaret died in Smith County, Texas. A photo of Richard Prater can also be found in the collection, as well other members of the Prater family.
