Letter from E. G. Youlsman to N. K. McAlpine stating his delay in answering was caused by the merchant not cashing a check right away.

Galveston National Bank check made out to W. J. Hughes & Co. for $33.90 and signed by W. K. McAlpine. The background of the check has a yellow seal in the center for the U.S. Internal Revenue and the text "Documentary Stamp" around the number 2 on either side of the seal. The back of the check is stamped and endorsed by W. J. Hughes & Co.

Envelope addressed to W. K. McAlpine and stamped with one stamp reading, "Registered Apr 20 1900 Uniontown, Ala." and the other stamp reading, "Registered Apr 25 1900 Galveston, Texas." There is a note written on the envelope, "Gouldman heirs receipt."
