He mentions that they will be able to sightsee in Yokohama and possibly Otaru, and that there will be transports for return to the United States in Aomori.

Extract of a letter from Naoyoshi Kuchinaka to Colonel Oliver Trechter originally written on behalf of a Japanese Army soldier, Tatsuo Tsuchiya. The unnamed writer of the letter says that Tsuchiya should not be found guilty as he was only following the orders of his superior officers. He goes on to say that newspapers and journalists aided in polluting the minds of the people through propaganda. He asks that Tsuchiya be given thorough consideration. The original letter in Japanese and its envelope are attached.

However, US currency is legal tender in vessels in Japanese ports.

Typewritten correspondence from an unknown sailor describing events in Nagasaki Harbor and city on September 11, 16, and 20th 1945. The document provides a first-hand account of damage from the atomic bomb from the sailor's viewpoint in Nagasaki harbor as well as naval operations during the period described and the affect on civilians in the area.
