John Milligan, a machinist in Detroit, Michigan who was also the “country’s greatest slingshot expert. “He won local fame by shooting the marks out of playing cards, hitting objects in mid air and bagging game in the field.” Joe took John national with his photos documenting his talent and accuracy. To assure accuracy, he has designed his own precision-built aluminum sling, called the Milligan Special. Additional photos and information can be found in the Clark Family Collection. Narrative by Junebug Clark: Photograph of Wade Hamilton Clark. In the image, Clark is wrapped in a blanket sleeping with the wrist identifier visible. December 13, 1978. Son of Junebug & Kay. A year prior I had photographer 11 births for Providence Hospital's Development office. They were seeking donations to build a new birthing wing. I shot, natural, epidural, C-section, home birth, Leboyer, etc. This was before I had a cell phone or pager and my wife Kay kept constant tabs on my where abouts. I did not miss a birth and every one of them came late (except for the induced one) So when I got a call to shoot an ad for Eli-Lilley, (Fly Detroit to Chicago one evening, travel to a farm, at sunup shoot a catle rancher feeding his catle and return to Chicago and fly home to Detroit, on our first child's due date, Kay said go ahead. Wouldn't you know it. She went into labor and delivered before I could get back. My father, Joe Clark HBSS, was there though and shot the birth in real time. He photographed me at three minutes old. So, if we had to send in a second shooter …

"Dignity of Labor." Worker smokes a cigarette and looks directly toward the camera. Narration by Junebug Clark: This striking studio portrait of a hard working laborer has been widely published. It was hung in every United Auto Worker union hall and other labor unions has used it too. In reality, this man is a plumber who came into fix a leaking darkroom sink and while he was there my father sat him down for a portrait. It's a family trait - always keep your camera handy and keep shooting. "If your going to come back and tell me about something you've seen today, bring me back a picture," Joe would often say. Narrative by Junebug Clark: Envelope is from December 30, 1982, Farmington, Michigan. Envelope was used to return a poem by Joe Clark, HBSS from the Lapeer County Press in Lapeer, Michigan. Joe had a weekly photo and poem or witticism in the Lapeer County Press that ran for maybe 15 years or more. Frank and Gladys Cooper, writers for the Press were good family friends who would drop by and pick out a pile of photos. The Cooper's created and managed the column.
