It is the purpose of this thesis to show Martin Luther's influence and trace his ideas in the development of music in the Lutheran Church.

The purpose of this thesis is to trace the history of the trumpet in chamber music through the first half of the 20th century. It aims to discuss the technical advances in the instrument and demonstrate the importance of the trumpet in this medium. Chamber music is defined, in this thesis, as all serious instrumental music for two or more instruments played with one instrument to a part. The selections have been chosen on the basis of recognized merit of the composer, the variety of instrumentation, and the availability of music.

The problem of this study is to determine the effects of two different social climates, as created by different teaching methods, upon the characteristics of college class groups. The social climates utilized in the present investigation were: (a) a democratic social climate, and (b) an autocratic social climate. The actual meaning of the adjectives used to label these social climates is necessarily somewhat different from the meanings attributed to them in political or economic discussions.

"The problem of this thesis is to study the recreational interests of children in grades four through seven and to compare the interests of boys with those of girls in order to ascertain whether the interests of the two sexes begin to differ appreciably during these grades, and, if so, to determine the grade level where differences occur."--1-2.

This thesis provides a brief history of opera as well as analysis of the operas of Giuseppe Verdi.

It is the purpose of this thesis to offer some pertinent information in the form of a documentary symposium and analytical study in which historical and technical matters relative to Beethoven's fugal techniques in his choral compositions will be presented. References to specific musical examples in this composer's works will be illustrated by diagrammatic and verbal analyses, and correlated with the pagination of the scores of his complete works as published by Breitkopf and Hartel.

The bibliography will comprise books, current magazines, annuals, and bulletins available in the North Texas State College Library. Some publications from other libraries in the area will also be included; namely, the Texas Woman's University Library, Denton; the Dallas Public Library; the Fort Worth Public Library; and Southwestern Medical College Library, Dallas. The bibliography is intended primarily for freshmen majoring in art, although the publications will be of value also to those students minoring in art.

It is interesting to note that several of Ravel's compositions for the piano were successful only after he had orchestrated them. Ravel, a pianist, had a natural gift for orchestration, and when writing for the piano he seems to have projected his thoughts to the orchestra; thus some of his works are more successful' for the orchestra than for the piano. Since he orchestrated several of his own piano compositions, these present an excellent opportunity for a study of his orchestrations.

The harmony of Vaughan Williams defies classification in terms of traditional harmony alone, making use as it does at times, of structures of superposed fourths, so-called "added-note" chords, and random sonorities, as will appear. Therefore, the chords will be placed into two principal categories of usage, traditional and non-traditional.

Industrial arts has been taught in varying degrees in the elementary schools of Texas for a number of years. In some cases, industrial arts activities have been integrated with other subject matter areas, and in some cases they have been taught as a separate subject. There have been several studies made concerning what the nature and extent of industrial arts activities should be at the elementary level. Research indicates, however, that there has been no study made to determine if industrial arts activities could be used to enrich the elementary curriculum in the Fort Worth Independent School District. The problem of this study is to determine if there is a need for industrial arts activities to enrich the elementary curriculum in the Fort Worth Independent School District, Fort Worth, Texas.

This thesis examines the evidences of pessimism in the poetry of each poet, substantiated when possible by parallel prose writings and other critical and biographical material; and finally, it reaches tentative conclusions about the direction of the change in pessimistic outlook of three poets.

The problem of this study was stated in the form of a question: What is the relationship of leadership roles occupied in high school to leadership roles occupied during the first ten post graduate years and what are the possible implications for the improvement of education for leadership? The accepted hypothesis was that the occupying of leadership roles in high school does lay the foundation for occupying community leadership roles.

When one group of disabled individuals finishes their vocational rehabilitation training programs and another group, almost as large in number, fails to complete their courses one wonders whether there are significant differences in the two groups. The problem in this study is to determine if the two groups differ significantly in certain identifiable characteristics. The identifiable characteristics are some important objective variables that are utilized in the vocational rehabilitation training of disabled veterans.

The problem undertaken in this study was to evaluate the activity phase of boys' physical education programs in selected junior high schools of Texas. As a result of visitation and observation in a number of public junior high schools in the capacity of supervising teacher for physical education majors, it appears that many physical education programs were little more than loosely supervised play periods. Apparently there was room for improvement of these programs but a method for making judgments and recommendations required some type of measuring device. However, an examination of several existing measuring techniques failed to reveal any one devoted to the junior high school level or one concerned primarily with the activity program. As a means of improving existing programs, it was concluded that some new form of evaluation must be designed.
