A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell ("Tommie"), Abilene, Texas, from Hunter M. Jones, Southland Life Insurance Company dated March 25, 1940. Jones advises Carswell that he "certainly did a grand job" as representative of the Alumni and Ex-students Association.

A letter written to "Dossie" from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas dated April 16, 1940. Carswell discusses the importance of the selection that must be made by the Trustees for a replacement for J. D. Sandefer as President of Hardin-Simmons University and offers his opinion that Rupert [Rupert N. Richardson] should be asked first. Carswell defends his opinion, noting the probability of "Dossie" being selected for the job thus requesting that "Dossie" encourage the selection of Rupert, in order to keep Rupert at Simmons, then the offer of the presidency would be made in due course to "Dossie".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Mr. Tom B. Roberts, Mr. George S. Anderson and Mr. C. M. Caldwell, Abilene, Texas from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated September 27, 1940. Sandefer makes a request to the above addressed men to serve on a planning committee with Mr. Carswell as Chairman.

A letter written to Mr. J. D. Sandefer (Breckenridge, Texas) from W. R. White, President, Hardin-Simmons University dated October 2, 1940. White advises Sandefer that he has thought considerably about the question of their affiliation with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. White outlines the conditions of an organic relationship and defends the benefits of an affiliation without the disadvantages of the old correlation.

A form letter addressed to Texas Drug Stores, from Max W. Boyer, Attorney-at-Law, Perryton, Texas, dated December 5, 1940. An appeal for support for a fund for the retention of the present law allowing druggists to dispense liquor through prescriptions. The letter includes a partial listing of drug stores that hold medicinal permits: Mr. A. O. Oberlander of the Behrens Drug Company of Waco and Lubbock; Hart's Pharmacy, West Pharmacy, Dunn Drug Company, Plainview; Shepard-Webb Drug Company, Seagraves; Cothes Drug, Seminole; Tahoka Drug, Tahoka; Corbett-Hubbard Drug, Young's Pharmacy, Sanders Chastain, Sweetwater; Morris Drug, Lubbock Drug, A & L Drug, Rushing Drug, Doc's Drug, Clarke's Drug, 19th Corner Drug, Brownfield; Thornton Pharmacy, Seagraves.

A form letter addressed to Other Medicinal Permit Holders of Texas, from City Drug, Inc., Perryton, Texas, (J. H. Brashears, President), dated October 19, 1940. Brashears advises of his support for the plan to protect the present law which permits druggists to dispense liquor by prescriptions under the medicinal permit law. He compels druggists to contribute $100 to the fund and recommends Mr. Max Boyer believing that much good will be accomplished through his endeavors and the other connections he has in Austin.

A form letter addressed to The Medicinal Permit Holders from Nineteenth Street Pharmacy, Lubbock, Texas, signed by F. E. Carter, Owner, dated October 23, 1940. The letter urges druggists to contribute $100 for the purpose of retaining the present law in Texas relating to dispensing liquor through prescriptions, and to support Mr. Max W. Boyer who is well known for having been responsible in a large measure during his four years in the legislature for the present retention of the medicinal permit law.

A document titled "Call to Texas Drys in State Senatorial District No. 24. The document announces a meeting to be held in Abilene, Texas, Thursday December 12 [1940] at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. "Purpose of the meeting: To canvas the liquor drug store situation in our dry territory, and plan for corrective measures through our representatives in the State's lawmaking body." Senatorial District No. 24 is composed of Mitchell, Scurry, Nolan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Taylor, Callahan, Shackleford, Throckmorton, Stephens and Eastland Counties.

The report is titled "Report of Committee on Statement of facts, findings and Proposals of the Dry Forces of the 24th Senatorial District in Texas, in conference December 12, 1940." The committee endorses the plan of the Texas United Drys to frame proposed legislation that will protect Dry Territory against indiscriminate sale of liquor by prescription in said Dry Territory; makes a recommendation that an organization in each County of said 24th District be set up to further the cause and purpose of the Texas United Drys; "a permanent district organization was set up with T. N. Carswell, Chairman, J. D. Riddle, Secretary and C. A. Long, Treasurer".

A form letter addressed to Brother Pastor from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, 24th Senatorial District Drys, dated December 20, 1940. Carswell reports on a meeting held on December 12 and advises regarding the enclosed Pronouncement of this meeting in dealing with the liquor situation. Carswell requests that the Pastors and their congregations join the cause and pledge to aid the 24th Senatorial District Drys in the fight against the sale of liquor for social drinking in Dry Territory. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander Parramore Post, Abilene, Texas, from Sam Russell, District Judge, Stephenville, Texas, dated October 27, 1940. Russell acknowledges his receipt of the telegram sent by Carswell and accepts the invitation to address the Armistice Day Program if it is to be held during the day citing a previous engagement in Stamford that night.

A letter written to Mr. T. H. Curry, Superintendent, Wylie Consolidated School, Abilene, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, dated October 30, 1940. Carswell accepts the invitation for the American Legion to assist with a school program.

Carswell advises the Commission of the wishes of Parramore Post No. 57 regarding the controversy between the ASCAP and the National Broadcasting Company.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, American Legion, Parramore Post No. 57, Abilene, Texas, from Norman S. Case, Acting Chairman, Federal Communications Commission, Washington, D. C., dated December 23, 1940. Case acknowledges the receipt of the letter from Carswell relating to the controversy between the ASCAP and the radio broadcast industry, and he expresses to Carswell the appreciation of the Commission for the benefit of having his views.

A letter addressed to Comrades, from Robert L. Murray, ASCAP, Thirty Rockefeller Plaza, New York, N. Y., dated November 29, 1940. Murray advises that all ASCAP music is to be barred from radio beginning January 1, 1941 and requests they write the Federal Communications Commission, have their Posts pass resolutions and send copies to their Senators, Representatives and Governors.

A letter addressed to the Military Service Publishing Company, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, dated January 20, 1941. Carswell places an order for 16 copies of the "State Defense Force Manual" authorizing a draw on his personal account at F. & M. National Bank, Abilene, Texas to assure shipment.
