["New Orleans Limited" rolling through Alabama]
One Southern Belle - Louisville and Nashville Railroad's "New Orleans Limited" train No.1, southbound, rolls through southern Alabama enroute to New Orleans from Montgomery in the spring of 1915. This de luxe steam powered train with a consist of ten cars of standard heavyweight equipment is headed by Engine No. 197, a K-3 class Pacific, type 4-6-2 locomotive. This engine was built in the year 1912 at the Louisville and Nashville's South Louisville Shops.

There are three maps on the sheet with page numbers 73-76 in the upper corners. On the front are Texas and Indian Territory with two separate maps on the back showing Alabama and Nebraska. The Use of Permissible Explosives
From Preface: "The present bulletin is printed as a supplement to Bulletin 17 and is intended primarily for coal miners, especially for those working in fields where inflammable gas or coal dust may cause disastrous mine explosions. The bulletin is issued by the Bureau of Mines in the hope that it may prove helpful in lessening accidents due to the use of explosives, and in particular may aid in preventing mine explosions, many of which have been caused by the use of improper explosives."

Magnetic Concentration of Iron Ores of Alabama
From Introduction: "The Birmingham district holds large deposits of red hematite, coal, and flux extends from Springville on the northeast to below on the southwest. The work was begun in July, 1923, and ores from a number of points within the Birmingham district have since been studied. A method of magnetic concentration has been investigated which, it is believed, will successfully remove a large part of the gangue and incur only a small loss of iron.

From Introduction: "Figure 1 shows the location of sources that have been either exploited or seriously considered at one time or another, super-imposed upon a map indicating by small letters the order of consumption of K2O in the leading States; the amount used in these States, together with the percentage of the total consumption of potash used as fertilizer in the United States in 1939, is given in table 1. Figure 2 shows the domestic production and total consumption of potassium salts, in terms of tons of K2O, with the value per unit at the plants, for each year since 1913. Injury Experience in the Coking Industry, 1951
From Introduction and Summary: "Reports from operating companies showed that 25,715 men worked at coke ovens in 1951, about 6 percent more than were employed in 1950 and, except in 1943, the largest work force since 1930, when 28,139 men were employed. The work time for all employees was 70,190,493 man-hours. The returns indicated an average of 344 work days per man as compared with 341 days in the previous year. Accidents at the ovens resulted in the death of 10 and injury to 768 workers, both of these figures representing fewer injuries than in 1950."

Mica Beneficiation
From Abstract: "The micaceous schist ores yielded concentrates containing 95 to 98 percent mica, with recoveries ranging from 70 to 83 percent. Part 1 of this report summarizes the process development work and demonstrates the feasibility of producing commercial-grade mica concentrates. The report also includes details of commercial beneficiation and grinding of mica. Also included in part 2 of this report are details of commercial mica production, including methods of mining, recovering, and grinding mica, and information on the production, uses, and prices of mica."
