He is writing to invite the president to speak at an event taking place at Pittman-Sullivan Park during Easter Sunday, where, along with other members of the BCMM, he plans on rallying support for various local issues. Among them is a dispute with KAPE radio, which has been criticized for lacking programming that adequately represents the black community.

The OUED was prompted to write the letter after their president, John H. Sanders Jr., was accused of communist leanings. The letter is sent to the Department of Justice to inquire on the specious statement, which they believe is meant to discredit their civil rights advocacy efforts.

The men are writing in response to a complaint filed by OUED concerning an unnamed indiscretion by an EMS Technician.
