Student Recruiters Turn Salesmen As Nationwide Enrollment Drops

A newspaper clipping and two printed invitations concerning films directed by North Texas State University student Henry Kaplan. The newspaper clipping from "The North Texas Daily" concerns low enrollment at North Texas State University and the Dean of Admissions office producing a promotional film, "North Texas Now," directed by Kaplan. The first invitation invites the recipient to attend a screening of the film "Texas Bound: The County Records Inventory Project" produced by the Center for Community Services in cooperation with the Department of Radio/TV/Film and the Department of Art on February 10, 1975 at NTSU. The second invitation from the School of Community Service invites the recipient to attend a reception honoring the participants of the County Records Inventory Project on Friday April 9, 1976 at the Statler-Hilton in Dallas.

The film concludes with the dedication ceremony of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on September 22, 1973 (02:19-04:24). Footage of the ceremony begins with a speech by former Dallas Mayor Erik Jonsson (02:19-02:25), followed by former Governor of Texas John Connally (02:26) and footage of guests on the stage. It appears that Congressman Jim Wright is seated to Connally's right (02:32). Connally introduces the current Governor of Texas, Dolph Briscoe, Jr. (02:37), who speaks to the crowd. Governor Briscoe's speech is followed by footage of an unidentified man speaking (02:44) as well as the large crowds, television news crews, and North Texas State University marching band. Other unidentified men speak (03:29) followed by more footage of the crowds and footage of the airport shot from a moving car. The film ends with members of the NTSU marching band posing for the camera (04:03-04:24). Members of the Smith family, Barney Smith and cousin Leslie Pruitt, were in the North Texas State University Band and performed as part of the ceremony.
