Report of the mass mortality of fish and invertebrates resulting from the 1998 El Nino in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Mortality was linked to a condition of near anoxia caused by a confluence of unusual oceanographic stratification associated with coastal upwelling, algal proliferation, and climatic conditions.

A report about a test which can determine which USBL system performs best in conditions that approximate those in Bristol Bay, Alaska. In the future, the Alaska Fisheries Science Center will need to track bottom fishing trawls in order to assess their impact upon the sea floor biology in Alaska.

This report is a continuation of a similar study conducted from 1989-1991 when permanent stations were established to monitor the coral in the area to assess how environmental factors were affecting the reefs. Growth rates and declines were observed, as well as the rates of coral bleaching in the East and West Garden Banks to determine the state of the coral reefs. There are four appendices that present the data gathered.

Report to Congress on the status of wetland resources in the United States. This report, a one-time effort, focuses on documenting historical wetland losses that occurred from colonial times through the 1980s.

This report discusses the history of the destruction and conversion of wetlands throughout the continental United States from 1600's to the present. Many maps trace the losses of wetlands related to increased population, settlement, and advances in culture, technology, and policies affecting wetlands. Estimates of the amount of wetlands loss and remaining are provided.

The object of this report is to produce comprehensive estimates of the United States wetlands acreage and how the wetlands have diminished since the 1970s. They also surveyed the vegetation and habitats.
