Energy Transfer Between Modified Maxwell Distributions (open access)

Energy Transfer Between Modified Maxwell Distributions

Abstract: "A particularly conventional modified form of Maxwell distribution is chosen. The modified expressions for (a) the energy transfer from the ions to the electrons in a plasma and (b) the brehmestrahlung from the electrons are calculated. Using the expressions some possible steady-state conditions for the ion and electron gases are derived and compared with those for the usual Maxwell distributions."

The Analysis of TBP Process Streams for Calcium with the Flame Photometer

Summary: A method was found for determining calcium concentrations in TBP process streams in spite of serious interferences bysodium, ferrous, uranyl, sulfate, phosphate, and sulfamate ions as well as by TBP. The precision attainable varied from sample to sample, depending upon its composition. In general, errors of 20% or greater occurred. The smallest determinable amount of calcium was about 10 mg/1.

Reconnaissance for Uranium in the Southern Carrizo Mountains, Apache County, Arizona (open access)

Reconnaissance for Uranium in the Southern Carrizo Mountains, Apache County, Arizona

Purpose: A reconnaissance was conducted during parts of August and September, 1956, of an area about two miles square in the southern Carrizo Mountains where the Permian Cutler formation, including its DeChelly member, and the Triassic Shinarump member of the Chinle formation, are exposed. The purpose was to appraise the uranium potential of the area and to determine the cause of bleaching in the DeChelly. Extensive uranium mineralization in the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation around the Carrizo Mountaind suggested that the Shinarump, a good producer in other areas on the Colorado Plateau, might be mineralized here as well. Bleaching, as shown in the DeChelly; has proven such a useful guide to uranium at other localities as to merit investigation here.

Aerial Radiometric and Magnetic Survey of the Clinton National Topographic Map, NI 14-2 Oklahoma: Volume 1

From objective and plan: The airborne data gathered were reduced using ground-based computer facilities to give the basic uranium, thorium and potassium equivalent gamma radiation intensities, ratios of these intensities, aircraft altitude above the earth's surface, total gamma ray and earth's magnetic field intensity, correlated as a function of geologic units indicated from available geologic maps. Results of analyses of these field data are presented as profile plots of the gamma radiation and earth's magnetic field.

Geology and Mineralization of Hunt's Mesa, Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo County with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling (open access)

Geology and Mineralization of Hunt's Mesa, Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo County with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Abstract: Hunt's Mesa was examined on June 2 and 3, 1951, by the writer assisted by R. C. Cutter. Two channels were located and studied. Outcrops of the channels are mineralized, the mineralization being of the copper-uranium variety. There are indications that an appreciable quantity of ore can be found by exploration drilling. A program of 25,000 feet of wagon drilling is recommended.

Abstract: The Treasure Hill area consists of eight mining-lode claims in secs. 10 and 15, T. 9 N., R. 70 W., Larimer County, Colo. All of the workings were examined and samples were taken from most of them. The results of the examination indicate that there is little or no detectable radioactivity in the schist and granite of the area.

Sodium Graphite Reactor, Quarterly Progress Report, June-August 1953 (open access)

Sodium Graphite Reactor, Quarterly Progress Report, June-August 1953

"Engineering was continued on the development of sodium cooled, graphite moderated type reactors. General studies were carried out as well as studies specifically devoted to the following: a. full scale poser-only plant, b. thirty-mega watt pilot plant, the SGR, c. sodium reactor experiment, the SRE. This work consisted of theoretical analysis of various aspects of nuclear performance; economic investigations of different fuel element, cooling system and plant arrangements; and experimental investigations related to the properties of certain materials and to the development of components. Preliminary consideration was given to alternative reactor arrangements employing liquid hydrocarbon moderators and high temperature coolants other than sodium. In addition to a summary of the general design features of the SRD, a program was prepared outlining the proposed use of this installation.

Melting Point -- Composition Diagrams in the U-UBr3 System

Abstract. A portion of the liquid-solid phase equilibrium region of the system U-UBr3 has been investigated by the method of thermal analysis. Uranium tribromide was prepared by introducing bromine vapor into a bulb containing finely divided uranium formed from the hydride. Cooling curves were obtained with tribromide and then with various compositions of tribromide and uranium. the information obtained showed that no solid sub halide exists but that the metal was soluble in the halide.
