Abstract: The Treasure Hill area consists of eight mining-lode claims in secs. 10 and 15, T. 9 N., R. 70 W., Larimer County, Colo. All of the workings were examined and samples were taken from most of them. The results of the examination indicate that there is little or no detectable radioactivity in the schist and granite of the area.

Melting Point -- Composition Diagrams in the U-UBr3 System

Abstract. A portion of the liquid-solid phase equilibrium region of the system U-UBr3 has been investigated by the method of thermal analysis. Uranium tribromide was prepared by introducing bromine vapor into a bulb containing finely divided uranium formed from the hydride. Cooling curves were obtained with tribromide and then with various compositions of tribromide and uranium. the information obtained showed that no solid sub halide exists but that the metal was soluble in the halide.

The operation of the inlet was observed in combination with a J34 turbojet engine at a range of Mach numbers. Results regarding terminal-shock-positioning control systems and combination control are provided.

Report presenting the results of a wind-tunnel investigation of the lift and moment characteristics of four 10-percent-thick circular-arc airfoil sections. Increases in the trailing-edge thickness were found to result in increases in maximum lift coefficient and lift-curve slope at all Mach numbers as well as increases in lift-divergence Mach number at all lift coefficients.

"A method is presented for calculating wing characteristics by lifting-line theory using nonlinear section lift data. Material from various sources is combined with some original work into the single complete method described. Multhopp's systems of multipliers are employed to obtain the induced angle of attack directly from the spanwise lift distribution. Equations are developed for obtaining these multipliers for any even number of spanwise stations, and values are tabulated for 10 stations along the semispan for asymmetrical, symmetrical, and antisymmetrical lift distributions" (p. 1).

Although the results reported herein are rather encouraging and show the possibilities of utilizing flotation to increase recoveries and in some instances grades, they should not not be considered an optimum. As stated previously, time did not permit a detailed investigation of all reagents an conditions to obtain maximum grades and recoveries, but sufficient data, with enough typical samples, have been obtained to indicate a definite trend and encouragement for further studies. A comparison of the flotation results obtained with each of the samples is presented in Table 2.

The Polarographic Determination of Titanium in Plutonium Solutions

A polarographic method for the determination of titanium in the presence of plutonium has been devised. Hydrochloric acid solutions of plutonium and titanium are reduced with zinc, made one molar in tartaric acid, and further reduced in the polarographic cell with liquid zine amalgam. Plutonium is thus reduced to the non-interfering (III) oxidation state and a well defined anodic wave for the oxidation of titanium (III) to titanium (IV) is obtained. The height of this wave is directly proportional to the titanium concentration for plutonium-titanium solutions containing 20 grams plutonium per liter. The precision for the analyses of duplicate samples has been calculated at the 95 percent confidence level to be 2.9 percent for those containing 0.025 to 0.050 gm titanium per liter and 1.1 percent for those containing 0.089 to 0.51 gm titanium per liter.

Thalluim in Meteorites

Procedures for the separation and concentration of microgram to nanogram amounts of thallium from gram amounts to galena and meteorite metal, sulfide, and silicate phases were developed and are described. The thallium is extracted from aqueous bromide of chloride solutions of moderate acidity using diethyl ether. A device for elimination of the large volumes of solvent by dropwise evaporation is described. Organic matter in the residue is destroyed by treatment with aqua regia, and the thallium is the residue is converted to the nitrate for spectrochemical or mass-spectrometric examination. The presence of thallium in the residue is tested by Rhodamine B. test.
