Influence of Hot-Working Conditions on High-Temperature Properties of a Heat-Resistant Alloy

"The relationships between conditions of hot-working and properties at high temperatures and the influence of the hot-working on response to heat treatment were investigated for an alloy containing nominally 20 percent molybdenum, 2 percent tungsten, and 1 percent columbium. Commercially produced bar stock was solution-treated at 2,200 degrees F. to minimize prior-history effects and then rolled at temperatures of 2,200 degrees, 2,100 degrees, 2,000 degrees, 1,800 degrees, and 1,600 degrees F. Working was carried out at constant temperature and with incremental decreases in temperature simulating a falling temperature during hot-working" (p. 1).

Relative Cross Sections for Photo Fission and Photo Neutron Emission

Abstract: The yields of U²³⁷ and a fission product were measured as a function of maximum betatron energy, The ratio of the number of fissions divided by the number of U²³⁷ atoms increases with increasing maximum betatron energy. This is consistent with the picture that the higher-energy gammas leave the U²³⁷ atoms with enough excitation energy (above photofission and photoneutron thresholds) to also decay by fission or neutron emission. This secondary process increases the number of fissions and decreases the U²³⁷ yield, this increasing the above ratio.

Analysis of Six-Bar Linkage Using Digital Computer

Summary. The analysis of the motion of a six-bar linkage is difficult because of the large number of variables involved and the large number of calculations that have to be made for each position of the linkage. If a digital computer is used to make the calculations required for a multi-position analysis of a mechanism, it is feasible to design by analyzing a large numbers of similar linkages and selecting the optimum configuration. In this paper expressions have been derived for the output angle as a function of the input angle and the transmission angle as a function of the input angle for any single-degree-of-freedom six-bar linkage for which the parameters are known An example showing the usefulness of a six-bar computer program as a mechanism design tool is discussed.

Use of Redux Adhesives for Bonding Metal

Redux is a thermosetting synthetic resin manufactured by the Resinous Products & Chemical Co., Washington Square, Philadelphia 5, Pa. According to the manufacturer, it is intended for bonding metal to metal and metal to wood. It was apparently intended to replace rivets in aircraft structural parts and recent information indicates that a British airplane, the DeHaviland Dove, is in production using this resin. The adhesive was originally developed in England by Aero research Ltd. Experience at this laboratory has been confined to use of the resin for bonding electrical grade silicon steel laminations. Very strong bonds have been obtained under properly controlled conditions. The bond strength is sufficient to tear 29 gauge (.014") steel when attempting to peel off individual laminations. The bond is sufficiently homogeneous to prevent leaks parallel to the plane of the laminations into a high vacuum system. Experiments at the laboratory have been designed to test the adhesive for use in bonding the laminations which form the pole tips and vacuum chamber lids for the synchrontron magnet.

An empirical approach for the evaluation of shielding materials for macrochemical manipulations of spontaneously fissioning heavy elements (curium and californium) has revealed interesting comparisons. High-density metal halide solutions were compared with lead glass and with rare earth glass for use as shielding windows. Laminated shields of lead-paraffin and uranium-paraffin were compared with water and with paraffin for shielding walls.

Metallographic examination of an irradiated powder metal uranium slug from PT-313-105-4M⁽¹⁾ was undertaken primarily as an evaluation of recently remotized metallographic equipment. It was, also, proposed to compare the grain size with values obtained ultrasonically on the same slug. It was further proposed to make a comparison, so far as limited data permitted, of post-irradiated powder metal uranium grain size with that to be expected from normal uranium similarly irradiated.

The Reduction Of Boolean Truth Functions To Minimal Form

The problem of the reduction of an arbitrary truth function to the minimal union of basic cells is discussed. The solution to this problem has applications to pattern recognition and logical circuit design. An algorithm is presented that solves the problem and generates the class of minimal unions. It partitions an arbitrary truth function into a well-defined set of subfunctions (components) in such a way that the partition is invariant under all transformations that preserve the topology of the original truth function.
