The Effect of Radiation on the Corrosion of Metals by Water. (Problem No. 322 MLC 2213)
Long-time tests have been made on the effect of various types of radiation on the corrosion of 2S aluminum in simulated W water. In no case was any acceleration of corrosion by the radiation observed; the effect of radiation, if any, appeared to be a protective one. Deuteron irradiation did accelerate the corrosion of mild steel at low flow rates in hot water of pH 6 to 7, but no appreciable effect was observed with copper, stainless steel, or tuballoy. The general theory of the effect of radiation on corrosion is discussed, with the conclusion that no acceleration of corrosion by radiation is to be expected in most cases of practical interest. Project 9536 HEW Building 105: Conference on welding design and technique
On February 4 at a conference in T.C. Gary`s office attended by Messrs. Wood, Gary, H.T. Daniels, Burns and C.R. Johnson, the design of the strap plates on the front and rear shields of the pile was discussed from the standpoint of welding technique in the field. Discussion of the design centered about the plug welding of the plates to the Laminated blocks and the ability of the field to perform this work properly. It was decided that welding specialists should be consulted prior to the beginning of the actual field erection in order that the best technique could be employed to guarantee good workmanship. It was agreed that a conference with such specialists should embrace both the features of the design as well as the practical phases of welding itself. This report provides details of this conference.

A summary of the fission product metabolism studies up to March 1944
The metabolic properties of the carrier free long lived fission products in the adult rat have been investigated at different intervals ranging from one to sixty-eight days following administration of the radioactive material. The radio elements studied include the most important long lived fission products, namely, Sr, Y, Zr, Cb, Ra, I, Xe, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Np, and the unseparated uranium free fission mixture. The routes of administration included intraperitoneal, intramuscular, oral and intrapulmonary. The tissues assayed for the distribution of the administered radio elements included heart, liver, kidney, testes, spleen, muscle, skin, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, bone, blood, lungs, brain, fat, adrenals, lymph nodes. Urine and feces were collected separately at daily intervals for assay. Data acquired is provided in tabular form. For the fission products which were poorly absorbed from the site of both intramuscular arid intraperitoneal injection (namely, Y, Zr, Cb, Ru, La, Ce, Pr, Np, and the uranium free fission mixture) only the intramuscular data are given here and it is expressed in terms of the distribution of the fraction absorbed from the site of injection. For the radio elements which are completely absorbed following intraperitoneal and intramuscular injection or are absorbed in …

Concentration of C-2 Slag
The bomb reaction slag produced at the ElectroMetallurgical X metal plant is at present divided into rich C-1 slag and lean C-2 slag by merely screening through a 4 mesh wire screen, the "on 4 mesh" material becomes the C-1 slag and the "thru 4 mesh" material becomes the C-2 slag. In the experiments covered by this report it was found that the concentration of the lean C-2 slag could be facilitated by the use of a 20 mesh screen for the slang separation in place of the 4 mesh screen, as the 20 mesh screen removed troublesome, small, hard lumps which passed the 4 mesh screen. Furthermore, it was found that the additional small lumps removed by the 20 mesh screen were just as rich in X metal as the larger lumps which make up the bulk of C-1 slag.

Hanford Engineer Works technical manual
The uranium metal, as discharged from the piles in the 100 Areas, contains the alpha emitting product, plutonium, in concentration in the neighborhood of 150--250 grams per metric ton, along with similar amounts of beta and gamma fission elements. It is the purpose of the Separations Plant to effect the separation of this product from the uranium metal and fission elements, and to prepare a concentrated, relatively pure solution of plutonium nitrate as the final product of the Hanford Plant. This section of the manual discusses the chemistry of the separations process, describes the buildings and equipment provided for carrying out the various steps in the operation, and presents the detailed operating procedures used. There are included, in many instances, references to other documents presenting a more detailed view of a specific point in the process.
