A Separated 1.17-Bev/c K- Meson Beam
This report describes the design and testing of a 1.17-Bev/c separated K{sup -} beam designed in the fall of 1958 in connection with a 15-in. hydrogen bubble chamber experiment. At the target the K{sup -}/{pi}{sup -} ratio was 1/140. At the chamber, after two stages of electromagnetic separation and 4.0 K{sup -}-meson decay lengths, the K{sup -}/{pi}{sup -} ratio was 12.5, corresponding to a total pion suppression by a factor of about 10{sup 5}. The K flux at the chamber was 0.87 K{sup -} per 10 protons on the target.

THE Epsilon*/Lambda BRANCHING RATIO OF Y*1
Recently a T = 1 resonance in the {Lambda}{pi} system called Y*{sub 1} has been observed with a mass of 1385 Mev. Two types of resonances have been predicted that might relate this observation to other elementary-particle interactions: (1) P 3/2 resonances in the {Lambda}{pi} and {Sigma}{pi} systems predicted by global symmetry corresponding to the (3/2, 3/2) resonance of the {pi}N system; (2) a spin-1/2 Y-{pi} resonance resulting from a bound state in the KN system. The position and width of the observed Y*{sub 1} resonance agree with both theories, but since the spin and parity have not yet been determined, it is impossible at present to distinguish between the two theoretical interpretations.

Fusion power: the transition from fundamental science to fusion reactor engineering
The historical development of fusion research is outlined. The basics of fusion power along with fuel cost and advantages of fusion are discussed. Some quantitative requirements for fusion power are described. (MOW)

Leak hunting problems associated with controlled thermonuclear fusion experiments
The LLL 2xIIB experiment is briefly described. The vacuum system uses mercury diffusion pumps and titanium sublimation. The base pressure of the guard vacuum is about 10$sup -5$ torr and about 2 x 10$sup -7$ torr in the high vacuum space using the diffusion pumps only. After titanium sublimation, the high vacuum pressure drops into the 10$sup -9$ torr range. A procedure for leak testing using a special sniffer probe is described. (MOW)

Numerical study of rotating relativistic stars
The equations of structure for rotating stars in general relativity are presented and put in a form suitable for computer calculations. The results of equilibrium calculations for supermassive stars, neutron stars, and magnetically supported stars are reported, as are calculations of collapsing, rotating, and magnetized stars in the slowly changing gravitational field approximation.
