The Absolute Abundance of the Chromium Isotopes in Some Secondary Minerals
From abstract: "Isotopic assays have been made on the chromium in samples from fourteen different chrominiferous minerals from different geographic and meteoritic sources. The results of the assays indicate that it is not possible to unequivocally state that variations in isotopic compositions have been observed."

"Ages" of the Sikhote Alin Meteorite
The potassium-argon age of the Siknote Alin iron raeteorite was determined. The value is 1.7 plus or minus 0.2 x 10/sup 9/ years. Previous lead data suggest an age of 4.6 x 10/sup 9/ years. The date of solidification may be the sum of these two ages. (auth)

"Ages" of the Sikhote Alin Meteorite
The potassium-argon age of the Sikhote Alin iron meteorite has been determined. The value is 1.7 + 0.2 x 10⁹ years. Previous lead data suggest an age of 4.6 x 10⁹ years . The date of solidification may be the sum of these two ages.

Analysis of Cell Population Kinetics
The relation between trace kinetic parameters of cell populations and the statistics used in studies on cell populations is discussed. It is pointed out that responses in cell populations are complex and subject to many perturbations. Some of these are discussed. It is concluded that a complete check list of sources of error is required for studies of great accuracy, and a calculus to help in combining heterogeneous data is needed for studies of systems of great complexity.

AN ANALYSIS OF H$sup 3$-THYMIDINE DISTRIBUTION THROUGHOUT THE SHOOT APICAL MERISTEM OF ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA (L.) HEYNH
Sequential autoradiographed sections through the shoot apical meristem of Arabidopsis thaliana treated for six hours with a solution of H/sup 3/- thymidine in combination with 0.1% Tween 20 and dilute mineral solution reveal a differential pattern of labeling, indicative of differential rates of DNA synthesis. This pattern corresponds to the histological zonation of the apex and reveals a sub-apical block of cells in which the amount of incorporation is significantly lower than in the adjacent flank cells. An Analysis of Instrumental Errors Affecting the Performance of a Schultz-Type Texture Goniometer
The performance of a Schultz-type texture goniometer is shown to be adversely affected by a number of experimental errors all of which result in defocusing of the diffracted beam. Those errors result from the tilting of the specimen, from lack of precision in positioning it and from its absorption coefficient. An experimental procedure is outlined which minimized these errors and results in optimum performance of the instrument.

The Angular Dependence of Thermal Neutron Spectra in Lattices
This technical report discusses techniques that have been developed for "computing the angular thermal flux spectrum emerging from a lattice. These methods are applied to water lattices and it is found that the computed spectra are sensitive to the geometrical description of the lattice, but insensitive to the anisotropic scattering by water. Comparisons with measured spectra indicate that corrections for gradients and the finite size of the experimental lattice are important." -- from abstract (p. 3).

Angular Distribution of Relativistic Atomic K-Shell Photoelectrons
From abstract: "Using the high energy limit of the exact Coulomb wave function for the outgoing electron, the differential cross section, correct to three orders in aZ, is calculated for the K-shell photoeffect. An analytic expression, exact in aZ, is obtained for the differential cross section for the special case in which the electron emerges in the forward direction."

Antiproton-Proton Two-Prong Interactions at 3.25 Bev/c
A study is being made of two-prong antiproton interactions in hydrogen at 3.25 Bev/c. About 2250 two-prong events were measured on automatic digitized machines and their reconstruction and analysis were performed with standard programs. Of the total number of events 1003 were classified as elastic interactions. About 500 inelastic events were examined using bubble density estimates in addition to criteria based on distribution values in the classification procedure. The inelastic events in which a secondary nucleon or antinucleon was unambiguously identified were used to obtain limits for annihilation and non-annihilation partial cross sections. The two-prong events were 57% of the total. Results for angular distributions and cross sections are presented in graphs and tables. (M.C.G.)

An Apparatus for Differential Thermal Analysis and its Use in the Investigation of Some Beryllium Compounds
An apparatus for differential thermal analysis of active or toxic materials is described. The technique is superior to thermogravimetric analysis. Analysis of the dehydration of beryllium sulphate shows that the process takes place in three stages. Some applications are given for a modified apparatus for quantitative work.

Automatic Recording Surface Balance

This note describes the torsion balance and trough designed and built in this Laboratory as a result of our experience with the previous instrument."
