From introduction: "The ORNL-ANP liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger design and development effort has been based on an exceptionally high performance matrix of closely-spaced small diameter tubes that permits practically pure counter-flow operation. In the course of full-scale aircraft power plant design work a number of charts for this type of heat exchanger has been prepared. These charts were intended in part to show the effects of the various parameters in a readily understandable form, and in part to simplify and to reduce markedly the chore of making detailed design calculations. These charts have proved so helpful it seemed very worthwhile to assemble them into a report along with brief explanations and sample calculations."

Report describing alternative methods for depleting a large turnings inventory in a short period of time.

Twenty-four briquettes of Pu turnings were pressed in a He atmosphere and made into eight castings. Six castings were processed to final form and were comparable to normally processed material. Two castings were recy-cled due to causes other than briquetting. Casting y-ieids. Pressure-drop data were obtained over a range of Reynolds numbers from 4000 to 80,000, air inlet Mach numbers from 0.02 to 0.40, inlet pressures up to about 40 inches of mercury absolute, and ambient air temperatures. factors, corrected for entrance, vena contracta, momentum, and exit losses, are considerably higher at the high Reynolds numbers than those reported for turbulent flow in smooth pipes" (p. 1).

One characteristic of the corrosion of uranium is the accelerating destruction of the metal under both dry and humid conditions and throughout a wide temperature range. Another corrosion property is the fracturing and fragmentizing of the oxide products. This results in an accelerating or decelerating growth law being operative at a particular time. This time is determined by whether the oxide ruptures rapidly or slowly compared to the rate of growth of the unfractured oxide. The reaction with dry air is essentially a reaction with the contained oxygen. In water, under oxygen-free conditions, linear oxidation laws are observed. In steam, because UO/ sub 2/ is the product at temperatures below 250 C and U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ at temperatures above 250 C, different reaction rates occur in the two temperature ranges. The effects of a few alloying elements on the corrosion resistance of uranium are reviewed. Wartime research indicates that small additions of aluminum, molybdenum, nickel, and titanium have a slightly beneficial effect. Niobium, silicon, and zirconium increase substantially the corrosion resistance in water provided the alloy has had adequate heat treatment. This paper presents the results of an induced angle-of-attack calculation using a method applicable to a propeller with arbitrary circulation distribution. Tables of induced angles of attack and section angles of attack and curves of wake-survey results are presented for the NACA 10-(3)(066)-03, 10-(3)(049)-03, 10-(3)(090)-03, 10-(5)(066)-03, and 10-(0)(066)-03 propellers. A brief description of the method of calculating propeller induced angles of attack is given.
