A new type of air speed meter is described which was designed by the technical staff of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. The instrument consists essentially of a tight metal diaphragm of high natural period which is acted upon by the pressure difference of a pitot-static head. The resulting deflection of this diaphragm is recorded optically on a moving film.

Patent for new and useful improvements in arrangement and construction of self-service-store fixtures. This invention provides an arrangement of shelving in sections with other parts of store furnture, the shelving being so arranged and constructed that all available space is economically utilized and at the same time permits the goods displayed on the shelves to be visible from a designated point in the store to avoid surreptitious removal of any goods while providing ample room for customers in their entrance, purchasing, and exit to and from the store.

Patent for "the provision of a device adapted to be secured on the hub of the wheel for pulling the automobile out of mud or sand where the wheel would ordinarily spin without propelling the vehicle" (lines 11-16). It also includes an illustration.

Patent for improved Automobile Windlasses. It is a combination of horizontally disposed tubular sections on the right and left hand, an improvement in the windlass attaching mechanism.

Patent for an aromatic asphaltum and paraffin wrap to preserve, protect from air and moisture, and transport meat that will not become brittle under cold temperatures.

A new empirical formula was developed that holds good for any length and any material of a rod, and agrees well with the results of extensive strength tests. To facilitate calculations, three tables are included, giving the crippling load for solid and hollow sectioned wooden rods of different thickness and length, as well as for steel tubes manufactured according to the standards of Army Air Services Inspection. Further, a graphical method of calculation of the breaking load is derived in which a single curve is employed for determination of the allowable fiber stress.

Patent for a new and useful improved form of device for lifting push rods, intended more particularly for use on Ford motors, but susceptible of use on other makes of automobiles, when it is desired to position the cam shaft bearing in the Ford motors.

Patent for a disk harrow or terracer that is more efficient in operation for turning soil with an improved structure and functionality.

Patent for Drill Head for oil wells, one object of the invention is to provide a drill head having the capacity to drill through strata of soft formation as may exist between rock layers and in broken formations of clay and boulders, as well as through rock formations themselves, the said drilling head being provided with roller bits or cutters and also with a fish tail cutter.

Patent for a drilling apparatus for wells. This drill is designed to be applied to a rotary and used with a pipe tong to screw and unscrew pipe joints.

Patent for a new engine designed to maximize power output by using a single crank's bearing surface and increase the crank power without lengthening the piston travel.

Patent for improvements on the Fishing-Tool, including illustrations. The tool was improved in order to make the boring of wells using pipes more efficient.

Patent for identification tags made of sheet metal, to be used with binding bands on cotton bales. Tags are economical to make, create little waste, and lay flat so they are not easily torn off.

Report presenting an experiment in the Rechlin airdrome in the fall of 1918 to determine the influence of struts and stays on the speed of an airplane. Results indicated that only a slight increase in horizontal speed was shown in a stayless airplane, but it had considerably greater climbing speed.

From Summary: "The difficulties experienced in properly holding thin tipped or tapered airfoils while testing on an N.P.L. type aerodynamic balance even at low air speeds, and the impossibility of holding even solid metal models at the high speeds attainable at the National Advisory Committee's wind tunnel, necessitated the design of a balance which would hold model airfoils of any thickness and at speeds up to 150 m.p.h. In addition to mechanical strength and rigidity, it was highly desirable that the balance readings should require a minimum amount of correction and mathematical manipulation in order to obtain the lift and drag coefficients and the center of pressure. The balance described herein is similar to one in use at the University of Gottingen, the main difference lying in the addition of a device for reading the center of pressure directly, without the necessity of any correction whatsoever. Details of the design and operation of the device are given."

Patent for lock that is stronger when locked due to its unique structure and requires special knowledge to use, making it more secure against intruders.

Patent for a "locking [device] for automobile," especially "an attachment for use ... with the steering wheel and the steering columns or attachments" (lines 9-13). This device is effective as a lock, as it keeps the steering wheel from rotating and the "throttle actuating members or levers ... held against movement" (lines 14-16)
