From background: The study is an outgrowth of investigations by the Atomic Energy Commission and the Office of Saline Water into the use of nuclear energy to supply heat for desalting seawater and for generating electricity, and of work on the energy center concept conducted at the AEC's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The bases for the study were set forth in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Commissioner James T. Ramey of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, Under Secretary David S. Black of the United States Department of the Interior, Acting Executive Director Fernando Torrent of the Puerto Rico Water Resources Authority, and Executive Director Orlando Gonzalez of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority.

From introduction: The PRWRA has contracted with the AEC to study the application of an Energy Center in Puerto Rico. The authority in turn has retained Burns and Roe, Inc. as a subcontractor and the Dow Chemical Company as a major sub-subcontractor to carry out this study.

From preface: The report which follows is the second phase of a DOE contract designed to address various aspects of the genesis of the uranium deposits of the Grants mineral.belt. Many of the problems outlined in Phase 1 of this study (Brookins, 1976a) have been answered, others have been raised.

From introduction: The objective of this survey is to develop a geochemical data base for use by the private sector to locate regions of anomalous uranium content. Prior to wide area coverage, several pilot studies are being undertaken to develop and evaluate sampling and analytical techniques. The first of these studies was conducted in the Walker River Basin.

The survey covered in this documentation was conducted in Southcentral Alaska that included the Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula regions of Alaska comprising six quadrangles. The survey was performed between 1976 and 1978 under the United States Department of Energy's National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Program. This program provides information on reconnaissance radioelement distribution to assist in assessing the uraniferous material potential in the United States.
