Final report on the exploratory experiment on the investigation of high multiplicity gamma-ray events. [Cross sections; rapidity distributions] (open access)

Final report on the exploratory experiment on the investigation of high multiplicity gamma-ray events. [Cross sections; rapidity distributions]

An experiment investigating high multiplicity gamma-ray events in a region covering 18 percent of 4..pi.. around 90/sup 0/ in the center of mass was performed at the CERN ISR by sharing the detector of the CERN-Columbia-Rockefeller group. Information on the dependence of the cross section on gamma-ray multiplicity as well as the dependence of the average gamma-ray and charge multiplicities on the center-of-mass energy was obtained. Studies were made of correlations between the number of gamma-rays and charged particles, as well as between the total number of gamma-rays plus charged particles and the total measured energy per event. Two-body inclusive rapidity distributions in the rapidity interval 0.86 to -0.86 covered by the detector are also presented. The main corrections to the data, as well as considerations of background effects, are extensively discussed. Also discussed are a Monte Carlo calculation of the gamma-ray multiplicity distribution expected from ..pi../sup 0/ decay and a calculation based upon an independent emission model of ..pi../sup 0/ production. Both calculations give identical results, which are found to be several orders of magnitude lower than the experimental results for gamma multiplicities greater than or equal to 10. (auth)

MAXIMSUPER: a computer program to assist in the design of multifilamentary superconducting composites. [Nb/sub 3/Sn] (open access)

MAXIMSUPER: a computer program to assist in the design of multifilamentary superconducting composites. [Nb/sub 3/Sn]

The strain degradation of critical current density has been analytically and experimentally investigated for multifilamentary superconducting composites produced in a bronze core geometry. Analytic results were obtained from a computer program (MAXIMSUPER) which predicts the stresses and strains in composites as a result of thermal and axial loading. Tensile test data for Nb/sub 3/Sn are described. It is believed that the strain dependence of the critical current found in Nb/sub 3/Sn is due to strain enhanced martensitic transformation.

Near Term Hybrid Passenger Vehicle Development Program. Phase I, Final report. Appendix D: sensitivity analysis

This report on the Sensitivity of Mission Analysis and Trade-off Studies provides an analysis of the sensitivity of the results of previous mission analysis and performance specification studies to the possible variations of the values of significant parameters as projected to the year 1985. These parameters include vehicle usage by purpose, driving cycles, trip lengths, ownership projections, and life-cycle costs. Tabulated data are included from calculations with variations in these parameters. (LCL)

Texas Register, Volume 4, Number 49, Pages 2361-2396, July 3, 1979

A weekly publication, the Texas Register serves as the journal of state agency rulemaking for Texas. Information published in the Texas Register includes proposed, adopted, withdrawn and emergency rule actions, notices of state agency review of agency rules, governor's appointments, attorney general opinions, and miscellaneous documents such as requests for proposals. After adoption, these rulemaking actions are codified into the Texas Administrative Code.

Thermal analysis of mounting plate and instrument holder in upper core support structure for LOFT Core III (open access)

Thermal analysis of mounting plate and instrument holder in upper core support structure for LOFT Core III

The maximum temperature drop that could occur across the mounting plate or instrument holder is about 9/sup 0/F. This is based on conservative data and assumptions. Gamma heating was estimated from calculations for 55 MW operation; the value used was 0.015 Watts/gram of metal. The mounting plate is the restriction orifice on top of the upper end box on the center fuel assembly. The instrument holder is bolted to the top of this plate. Only steady state operation is considered.

Thermal control for the MFTF magnet (open access)

Thermal control for the MFTF magnet

Four features of the thermal control plans for the Mirror Fusion Test Facility (MFTF) magnet are described. First, the proposed cooldown and warmup schedules for MFTF and the procedure for regenerating external cooling surfaces is outlined. Then the design of an external quench resistor, based on an estimate of the superconductor's maximum temperature, is discussed. A computer model of liquid helium circulation used to aid in choosing pipe for the LHe lines is explained.
