Patent for a new and improved planter. This design "consists in, first, a hopper having its rear side or board extended downward so as to form the standard or furrow-opener; second, the combination of two endwise adjustable castings provided with shoulders or offsets, and which are made adjustable in relation to each other, and by means of which the quantity dropped is regulated . . . [An object] of [the] invention [is] to extend the rear side of the seed-box downward, so as to form a furrow-opener or standard, to attach the combined seed-box and standard to the two iron beams" (lines 13-28).

This design "consist[s], essentially, of the upright bars having their upper ends reduced . . . and provided with staples, the brackets, having loops at opposite ends and a pintle on its lower branch to enter the staples in the posts, the lateral rods carrying the loop brackets at opposite ends, and sockets . . . to receive the upper ends of the posts, the inner cross-bar arranged in the inner brackets of the lateral rods, the outer cross-bar arranged in the outer brackets of said rods, and the longitudinally-adjustable slide-bar carrying guide-eyes" lines 82-95).

This design "is to provide a pen holder of simple construction that may be easily held between the fingers without cramping the same, that will hold the pen in such a position in relation to the eye as to enable the writer to write well, and that will be adapted to hands of various sizes. To this end [the] invention consists of a curved flat holder having a shank projecting from the end thereof, to which a pen may be attached, said shank being nearly parallel with the straight portion of the holder, and in line with the eye when held in position for writing" (lines 9-22).

This design consists, "with a sod-cutter comprising the frame, the horizontal blade, the beam, the handle-bars, and the brace-rod connecting the said beam with the outer handle-bar . . . of the upwardly and outwardly curved guide-rods secured to the rear of the said blades, the curved cutting-blades secured to said rods for dividing the cut sod into separate portions, and the fender provided with a forwardly-bent flange at its upper edge and secured to the said brace-rod diagonally of the machine and behind and above the said blades" (lines 76-88).

This design "consists in providing a rotary circular box revolving in a horizontal plane and carrying a rack, upon which is supported the tire, said box having a stationary bottom provided with openings to admit the flames of oil, gas, or vapor burners to immediate contact with a rotated tire. . . . The object of [the] invention is to provide a tire-heater, which shall be simple and economical of construction, adapted to the use of gas, oil, or vapor fuel, but free of all connections for supplying and burning the same" (lines 18-29).
