105-DR Large Sodium Fire Facility decontamination, sampling, and analysis plan (open access)

105-DR Large Sodium Fire Facility decontamination, sampling, and analysis plan

This is the decontamination, sampling, and analysis plan for the closure activities at the 105-DR Large Sodium Fire Facility at Hanford Reservation. This document supports the 105-DR Large Sodium Fire Facility Closure Plan, DOE-RL-90-25. The 105-DR LSFF, which operated from about 1972 to 1986, was a research laboratory that occupied the former ventilation supply room on the southwest side of the 105-DR Reactor facility in the 100-D Area of the Hanford Site. The LSFF was established to investigate fire fighting and safety associated with alkali metal fires in the liquid metal fast breeder reactor facilities. The decontamination, sampling, and analysis plan identifies the decontamination procedures, sampling locations, any special handling requirements, quality control samples, required chemical analysis, and data validation needed to meet the requirements of the 105-DR Large Sodium Fire Facility Closure Plan in compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.

190-C pump capacity (open access)

190-C pump capacity

The purpose of this document is to update 190-C pump capacity information previous released in HW-52449{sup 1} and HW-58580{sup 2}. Improvements in motor cooling has resulted in raising the previous 3500 HP limit to 3660 HP{sup 3} thus increasing total pumping capacity.

200 Area Tedf Effluent Sampling and Analysis Plan

This sampling analysis sets forth the effluent sampling requirements, analytical methods, statistical analyses, and reporting requirements to satisfy the State Waste Discharge Permit No. ST4502 for the Treated Effluent Disposal Facility. These requirements are listed below: Determine the variability in the effluent of all constituents for which enforcement limits, early warning values and monitoring requirements; demonstrate compliance with the permit; and verify that BAT/AKART (Best Available Technology/All know and Reasonable Treatment) source, treatment, and technology controls are being met.

200 East Vadose Test Site Hanford, Washington: Electrical Resistance Tomography. Final Report FY 2001 (open access)

200 East Vadose Test Site Hanford, Washington: Electrical Resistance Tomography. Final Report FY 2001

This report covers the electrical resistance tomography (ERT) work performed at the Hanford Reservation, 200 East Area Vadose test (Sisson and Lu) site during the period March 23 through May 5, 2001. The purposes of the ERT work were to: (1) compare and contrast the development of the highly concentrated sodium thio-sulfate plume (FY01 work) with the fresh river water plume observed during FY00; (2) use the resistance images to infer the dynamics of the plume during two or three of the sodium thiosulfate releases and during the water ''chaser'' release; (3) determine the influence of the site's steel casings on the capability to construct reliable ERT images; (4) determine if the steel casings at the site can be used as long electrodes to provide useful images of at least one release; and (5) develop quantitative estimates of the noise in the data and its effect on reconstructed images.

200-GeV proton-proton elastic scattering at high transverse momentum (open access)

200-GeV proton-proton elastic scattering at high transverse momentum

This is a proposal to study p-p elastic scattering at the highest possible P{sub {perpendicular}}{sup 2} at NAL, using a CH{sub 2} or H{sub 2} target placed directly in the extracted beam and a double arm spectrometer. We expect to be able to set an upper limit at the level d{sigma}/dt/d{sigma}/dt{sub t=0} {approx} 10{sup -14}. This would be sufficient to determine if there are exactly three regions in the p-p interaction with considerable precision.

200 North Aggregate Area source AAMS report

This report presents the results of an aggregate area management study (AAMS) for the 200 North Aggregate Area in the 200 Areas of the US Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site in Washington State. This scoping level study provides the basis for initiating Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) activities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) or Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Facility Investigations (RFI) and Corrective Measures Studies (CMS) under RCRA. This report also integrates select RCRA treatment, storage, or disposal (TSD) closure activities with CERCLA and RCRA past practice investigations.

201 MHz Cavity R&D for MUCOOL and MICE (open access)

201 MHz Cavity R&D for MUCOOL and MICE

We describe the design, fabrication, analysis and preliminary testing of the prototype 201 MHz copper cavity for a muon ionization cooling channel. Cavity applications include the Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) as well as cooling channels for a neutrino factory or a muon collider. This cavity was developed by the US muon cooling (MUCOOL) collaboration and is being tested in the MUCOOL Test Area (MTA) at Fermilab. To achieve a high accelerating gradient, the cavity beam irises are terminated by a pair of curved, thin beryllium windows. Several fabrication methods developed for the cavity and windows are novel and offer significant cost savings as compared to conventional construction methods. The cavity's thermal and structural performances are simulated with an FEA model. Preliminary high power RF commissioning results will be presented.
