Large-scale low-speed wind-tunnel tests of a model having a 60 degree delta horizontal canard control surface and wing to obtain static-longitudinal-stability and canard surface hinge-moment data

Report presenting a wind-tunnel investigation of a model equipped with a 60 degree delta wing and a 60 degree delta horizontal all-movable canard control surface to determine the stability, control, and canard-surface hinge-moment characteristics at low speeds and at a Reynolds number of 9 x 10(exp 6). Two longitudinal positions of the canard surface were tested. Results regarding lift and pitching moment, drag, and hinge moment are provided.

Preliminary Report on the Geology and Uranium Deposits of South Elk Ridge, San Juan County, Utah (open access)

Preliminary Report on the Geology and Uranium Deposits of South Elk Ridge, San Juan County, Utah

From abstract: Elk Ridge is in southeastern Utah in the central part of San Juan County. It forms a conspicuous ridge on the north end of the Monument upwarp. During the summer of 1953 field work was largely restricted to South Elk Ridge, that part of Elk Ridge which is south of The Notch. Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks crop out in the area and Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks are exposed east of the area.

The Rf System of the Bevatron

Report discussing details of the design for the Bevatron at the University of California Radiation Laboratory. The Bevatron is a "6-billion-electron-volt (Bev) proton synchotron. This device will receive a 10-million-electron-volt (Mev) proton beam from a linear accelerator, and further accelerate a reasonable percentage of these protons, at a nominally constant radius of 600 inches, to a final energy greater than 6 Bev."

Surges in Southern Outfall Sewer and Flow Conditions in State Fairgrounds (Western Parkway) Pumping Plant, Louisville, Kentucky: Hydraulic Model Investigation

Report of findings from various tests: "Model investigations of the surges occurring in sewer lines and of the flow conditions in a typical pumping plant, used to dispose of drainage during high river stages, were conducted as a part of the local flood protection project for Louisville, Kentucky. Studies conducted on a 1:32 scale simplified model of the Southern Outfall Sewer provided general information on the relative amount of relief from surges to be expected from the pumping station and manholes in the sewer line upstream" (p. v).

Generalized Indical Forces on Deforming Rectangular Wings in Supersonic Flight (open access)

Generalized Indical Forces on Deforming Rectangular Wings in Supersonic Flight

"A method is presented for determining the time-dependent flow over a rectangular wing moving with a supersonic forward speed and undergoing small vertical distortions expressible as polynomials involving spanwise and chordwise distances. The solution for the velocity potential is presented in a form analogous to that for steady supersonic flow having the familiar "reflected area" concept discovered by Evvard. Particular attention is paid to indicial-type motions and results are expressed in terms of generalized indicial forces. Numerical results for Mach numbers equal to 1.1 and 1.2 are given for polynomials of the first and fifth degree in the chordwise and spanwise directions, respectively, on a wing having an aspect ratio of 4" (p. 595).
