"Altitude performance of a YJ71-A-7 turbojet engine, with afterburner inoperative, was determined in the NACA Lewis altitude wind tunnel over a wide range of flight conditions. Engine speed and exhaust-nozzle area were controlled independently during this investigation. The variation of corrected values of air flow, net thrust, and fuel flow with corrected engine speed was not defined by a single curve with changes in altitude at given flight Mach number" (p. 1).

"An investigation of a 1/24- scale dynamically similar model of the Douglas C-124 airplane was made to determine the ditching characteristics and proper technique for ditching the airplane. Various conditions of damage, landing attitude, flap setting, and speed were investigated. The behavior of the model was determined from visual observations, motion- picture records, and time-history deceleration records. The results of the investigation are presented in table form, photographs, and curves" (p. 1).

Effect of Aerodynamic Hysteresis on Critical Flutter Speed at Stall

Memorandum presenting a theoretical analysis of the effect of aerodynamic hysteresis on stalling flutter. The results were applied to a given airfoil and correlation of the experimental and theoretical results was found possible by assuming that the angle of aerodynamic lag varies as the slope of the static-lift curve. It was shown that the phenomenon of stalling flutter can at least in some cases be explained on the basis of an aerodynamic lag or hysteresis effect.

A flight investigation of the spinning of the NY-1 airplane with varied mass distribution and other modifications, and an analysis based on wind-tunnel tests

This report presents the results of an investigation of the spinning characteristics of NY-1 naval training biplane. The results of flight tests and an analysis based on wind-tunnel test data are given and compared. The primary purpose of the investigation was the determination in flight of the effect of changes in mass distribution along the longitudinal axis, without change of mass quantity or centroid. Other effects were also investigated, such as those due to wing loading, center-of-gravity position, dihedral of wings, control setting, and the removal of a large portion of the fabric from the fin and rudder. The wind tunnel test results used in the numerical analysis were obtained in the 7 by 10 foot wind tunnel through an angle-of-attack.

Abstract: "Two cases are considered. In Case I, the reactor water velocity is optimized to obtain a minimum annual cost (including amortization and operating costs) for the cooling system along. The optimum velocity for a 310 megawatt reactor is calculated to be ~25 feet per second, compared to the present design value of 30 feet per second. In Case II, the velocity which will give the minimum cost of product under the assumptions of varying power and production rate is found to be in the range from ~25 to ~40 feet per second, depending on the assumptions with respect to the variation of total investment in the reactor complex with design production capacity."
