The following report describes work done by the Marine and Freshwater Ecology Branch, Corvallis Environmental Research Laboratory (CERL), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Corvallis, Oregon. The study was conducted on the chemical and physical effects of open-water disposal of dredged material from the Duwamish River into Elliot Bay, Washington.

Appendix containing data on the recolonization of benthic macrofauna over a deep-water disposal site in the Duwamish River influenced portion of Elliott Bay. It accompanies a report on the chemical and physical effects of open-water disposal of dredged material from the Duwamish River into Elliot Bay as part of a study to determine the effects of disposal sites on organisms and the quality of surrounding water.

Abstract: This paper describes a general concept that will serve as a basis for developing well-conceived aquatic plant management plans, as well as a step-by-step guide for implementing measures for long-term aquatic plant control while giving proper consideration to their potential long-term effects on the environment.

The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Carswell Air Force Base (CAFB), Texas, during 16-19 December 1972. The two major areas of interest considered in this survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements and the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield.

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Dyess Air Force Base (DAFB), Texas, during 11-14 December 1972. The two major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, and the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield" (p. 1).

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Forbes Air Force Base (FAFB), Kansas, during 1-6 May 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any evidence of detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Grand Forks Air Force Base (GFAFB), North Dakota, during 18-22 April 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of an inspection performed at Laguna Army Airfield (LAAF), Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, during December 1972. The inspection was limited to visual observations, and no tests were conducted on any of the pavement facilities. A layout of the airfield is shown in plate 1" (p. 1).

The frost action inspection was performed during 7-8 June 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Whiteman Air Force Base (WAFB), Missouri, during 9-13 May 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

Preface: This report presents the results of a condition survey performed on taxiway 3 at March AFB, Riverside, California, in June 1955 in accordance with addendum 3 to Instructions and Outline, "Condition Surveys for Existing Pavements."

Introduction: The general project of correlating soil properties with geologic information, one phase of which is described in this report, consists in comparing soil properties with soil types and with their geologic history and environment in order to determine what correlations are possible.

Summary: "This study was conducted for the purpose of developing a relationship between elastic pavement deflection and pavement performance (number of traffic applications necessary to cause failure). Data for the study were taken from past studies of airfield and highway pavements. A summary of test conditions, failure criteria, and traffic type is given for each data source. A relationship was developed between elastic deflection and the number of coverages of traffic for combined airfield and highway data and for airfield data only. The relationship of wheel load and tire pressure is given, and a multiple-regression equation was determined to predict coverages as a function of wheel load, tire pressure, and deflection" (p. xi).

"This report discusses surface deterioration and repairs of concrete in the Lower Monumental Lock on the Snake River in Washington. It includes discussion of laboratory studies, testing, construction, and field evaluation of the original concrete and of the various cementitious coatings used for repairs" (p. i).

Summary: "This report maps the distribution of soils which border the Mississippi between river mile 189 and Head of Passes in southeast Louisiana with special regard to their engineering significance. The subsurface disposition of depositional environments and their associated soil types are shown on 34 subsurface profiles. The text describes the physiographic and geologic development of the area studied, summarizes physical and engineering characteristics of the engineering soil types mapped, and discusses some of the effects of geologic factors on river migration" (p. vii).

Partial summary: "The drainage and erosion control facilities of 54 installations were observed to evaluate performance of surface and subsurface drainage systems, erosion control measures, and conditions of buried conduits and associated facilities. Although the facilities observed varied from only 1 to 30 years or more of age and it is recognized that basic demands have increased as well as the fact that design and construction procedures have been improved continuously, many of the old familiar problems still exist and a few new ones have developed" (p. xi).

Summary: The motion of Rifle Gap Dam was measured in September 1969 during the Project RULISON underground nuclear explosion. The observed response was then compared with the response computed in a mathematical model. Observed and computed responses were similar. From this study it appears that the mathematical models used are applicable to the design and analysis of soil structures, at least for ground motion intensities comparable to those observed at Rifle Gap Dam.
