Scintillation Spectrometer 2: Simultaneous Measurement of Uranium, Thorium and Potassium in Common Rocks

From abstract: "A method is described for the simultaneous radioassay of the uranium and thorium series and potassium in common rocks, or materials of comparable activity, in which the series are in secular equilibrium. The method is based on the measurement of the counting rate in three bands of the photon energy spectrum derived from the gamma-ray excitation of a scintillation crystal."

Strontium Sorption Studies on Crandallite (open access)

Strontium Sorption Studies on Crandallite

Abstract: "Crandallite ores may be useful in the treatment of nuclear waste solutions because of their reactivity with strontium in weakly acid solutions and in alkaline solutions containing aluminum. The exchange capacity of the crandallite samples studies is not very high, being 6-10 miliequivalents of strontium and 2 milliequivalents of cesium per 100 grams of active phosphatic material. However, strontium removal is many times more effective from alkaline solutions, precipitation being the dominant mechanism. The removal of strontium is even more complete in alkaline solutions containing aluminate ions."

Systems Containing Alkali Carbonates, Alkaline Earth Carbonates, and Both

Abstract: "In this report is assembled the available information about the dissociation and melting of the alkali and the alkaline earth carbonates and the binary systems they form with each other. Information is also included about the oxides formed on dissociation of the carbonates, and when it exists pertinent information about the effect of water. Because the carbonates are compounds in binary systems that contain the volatile CO2 component, the report contains a discussion of the complicated phase equilibrium relations in systems in which a compound is formed between volatile and nonvolatile components, including a discussion both of systems in which the solubility curve does not and does intersect the critical curve."
