The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses (open access)

The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses

Introduction: Studies of uranium-vanadium occurrences in the Four Corners region show that, with the exception of the Lukachuai area, all of the major deposits in the Morrison formation are grouped around the various igneous masses which are scattered irregularly throughout the Colorado Plateau. The pattern of deposition varies from mountain group to mountain group and each will be described separately. Maps accompany this report to supplement the descriptions of ore occurrences in the vicinity of the La Sal, Abajo, Carrizo, and Henry mountains. Elsewhere, it is believed that a written description will suffice.

Earthquake Resistance of Earth and Rock-Fill Dams, Report 2: Analysis of Response of Rifle Gap Dam to Project Rulison Underground Nuclear Detonation

Summary: The motion of Rifle Gap Dam was measured in September 1969 during the Project RULISON underground nuclear explosion. The observed response was then compared with the response computed in a mathematical model. Observed and computed responses were similar. From this study it appears that the mathematical models used are applicable to the design and analysis of soil structures, at least for ground motion intensities comparable to those observed at Rifle Gap Dam. Extraction and Recovery of Mercury and Lead From Aqueous Waste Streams Using Redox-Active Layered Metal Chalcogenides. 1998 Annual Progress Report

'Mercury and other highly-toxic heavy metals such as cadmium and lead are present in many aquatic environments, and the remediation of such environments or the avoidance of heavy-metal contamination in the first place is an area of active interest. In recent years tougher environmental regulations and the high initial cost of new, more effective, and more selective extractants has made the reuse of extractant materials and the minimization of secondary waste volume a focus of their scientific effort. The authors research has involved the investigation of redox-active layered metal chalcogenides as selective, effective, and redox-recyclable extractants for heavy metals from aqueous solution.'

Geology and Uranium Deposits of Part of the Browns Park Formation, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah: a Preliminary Report (open access)

Geology and Uranium Deposits of Part of the Browns Park Formation, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah: a Preliminary Report

From abstract: Uranium deposits and radioactivity anomalies have been found in the eastern half of the area underlain by the Browns Park formation in northwestern Colorado, south-central Wyoming, and northeastern Utah. The deposits are in eolian, lacustrine, and fluvial sandstones, tuffaceous sandstones, and limestones all of which were deposited on two converging pediments during Miocene time. At least one eastern and one western facies of lacustrine and fluvial sedimentary rocks are separated by a belt of eolian sandstones. The faces may be distinguished in the field and by petrographic and heavy-mineral studies in the laboratory.
