Car Coupling.

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the draw-head having the downwardly and forwardly inclined floor and the floor slot or opening, of the coupling-bar having a curved or angular lever secured to its rear end and extending first downward through said opening and then under the draw-head" (lines 82-88).

Patent for a new and improved lock. This design "is to produce a lock and key in which the lock-case has no exterior opening communicating with its wards or works, but is provided with a recess only for supporting the shank or axis of the key, while the only opening for the admission of the key to the interior of the lock, whereby its wards or bolt may be operated or controlled, is upon the interior of the lock-case, so that there is no possibility of introducing . . . picking devices therein, or of introducing any explosive agents" (lines 15-27).

This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the plow-body having slots formed with an enlargement at their forward ends near the lower edge of the mold-board, and having a laterally-projecting lug upon the landside near the point, of a detachable share and point having inwardly-projecting headed studs for engaging the slots in the mold-board, and having a perforated landside flange fitting upon the lug at the landside of the body" (lines 64-73).
