Cotton Chopper and Cultivator

Patent for a simplified and "improved cotton-chopping mechanism which may be readily applied to a straddle-row cultivator of ordinary construction, whereby the cotton may be plowed and chopped at one operation" (lines 10-14). It also allows for the chopping mechanism to be adjusted to regulate the chopping operation and provides better support of the mechanism while operating.

Cotton-Chopping Machine.

Patent for improvement in stalk-choppers particularly adapted for chopping cotton. When the chopper is started the sprocket upon one of the traveling wheels will impart motion to the sprocket through the medium of the sprocket-chain, which will rotate the gear-wheel and in turn the pinion and the crank will impart a reciprocatory motion to the pitman and the horizontal bar, this will give the cutter-blade a reciprocatory motion. The speed of the reciprocatory chopping blade can be regulated. (Lines 45-55) Illustration is included.

Patent for a new and improved cotton chopper. This design "relates to improvements in cotton-chopping machines in which revolving hoes are attached to plows; and the object of [the] improvement is to afford facilities for chopping out cotton by means of horse-power instead of by hand" (lines 8-13).

Cotton-Chopper.

Patent for improvements in cotton-choppers by using a crown-wheel attached to one of the ground-wheels of the chopper. When the ground wheels impart motion to the crown wheel, which in turn communicates motion to the pinions of the shaft. This shaft drives the two sprocket-wheels; the sprocket wheel that located in the rear portions of the crank-shaft imparts motion to the crank-shaft, which drives the vertical choppers. Patent for a cotton chopper that is "cheap, durable, have as few parts as practicable, and be easily assembled" (lines 13-15). The device uses hoe-carrying shafts and a main-drive shaft, and the hoes elevate and depress to chop the cotton.
