A Theoretical Treatment of the Absorption Characteristics of the Dithizone Mixed-Color System

From Abstract: "The equation of the standard curve used in the colorimetric determination of trace amounts of metals by means of dithizone extraction is developed, and a further expression is derived which defines the slope of the standard curve."

Time Dependence of the Slowing Down of Neutrons with Constant Scattering Mean Free Path (open access)

Time Dependence of the Slowing Down of Neutrons with Constant Scattering Mean Free Path

Simple expression are derived for the time dependence of slowing down of neutrons in a simple media. In Section I, a method suggested by age theory is used, while in section II, a two parameter scattering function is employed. Results are compared with exact calculations.

Time-History Data of Maneuvers Performed by an F-86A Airplane During Squadron Operational Training (open access)

Time-History Data of Maneuvers Performed by an F-86A Airplane During Squadron Operational Training

"Preliminary results of one phase of a control-motion study program are presented in the form of plots of load factor.and angular acceleration against indicated airspeed and of time histories of several measured quantities. The results were obtained from 197 maneuvers performed by an F-86A jet-fighter airplane during normal squadron operational training. Most of the tactical maneuvers of which the F-86A is capable were performed at pressure altitudes ranging from 0 to 32,000 feet and at indicated airspeeds ranging from 95 to 650 miles per hour" (p. 1).

Uranophane at the Silver Cliff Mine Near Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming (open access)

Uranophane at the Silver Cliff Mine Near Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming

In 1950, the U.S. Geological Survey studied a uranium deposit, previously exploited, at the Silver Cliff mine near Lusk, Wyoming. The deposit consists primarily of uranophane that occurs as fracture fillings and small replacement pockets in faulted and fractured quartzite of Cambrian (?) age. The country rock in the vicinity of the mine is schist of pre-Cambrian age intruded by pegmatite dikes and unconformably overlain by flat-lying Cambrian (?) quartzite. The mine is at the southern end of the Lusk Dome, a local structure probably related to the Hartville uplift. In the immediate vicinity of the mine, this dome is cut by the Silver Cliff fault, which is a north-trneding high-angle reverse fault approximately 1,200 feet in length with a stratigraphic throw of 70 feet. The fractured quartzite has been the locus for the deposition of uranophane, metatorbernite, pitchblende, calcite, native silver, native copper, chalcocite, azurite, malachite, chrysocolla, and cuprite. The fault was probably mineralized throughout its length, but owing to erosion the mineralized zone is now discontinuous. The principal ore body is about 800 feet long. The width and depth of the mineralized zone are not accurately known but are at least 20 feet and 60 feet, respectively. The …
