Patent for an account book that is to be used "to receive in condensed form the dates and other particulars when sums are due to and from a person or firm are payable" (p. 2).

Patent for a new and improved axle-box for locomotives. This design "has relation to self-adjusting wedges for axle or driving boxes for locomotives, and has for its objects to produce a wedge that is controlled by a spring, which can be readily and easily adjusted for removing the pounding and lost motion between the axle-box and pedestal" (lines 11-17).

Patent for a new and improved axle lubricator. This design "consist[s] of a box provided with bearings in which the axle works, and with a cellar below the said bearings for the reception of the waste for containing the lubricant; [and] . . . of a frame in which the box fits, . . . being provided with screws for elevating or depressing the box, whereby it may be kept always in contact with the axle . . . The object is to produce an axle or journal lubricator . . . [that] will keep the bearings of an axle or journal shaft thoroughly lubricated at all times, thereby preventing the same becoming heated and swelling" (lines 14-35).

Patent for "a press of this character by means of which a direct stroke will be given to the plunger, the latter permitted to rebound by the recoil of the hay, and the hay properly held in position" (lines 8-12).

Patent for a new and improved bed drier and warmer. This design "includes, primarily, a suitable frame of essentially elliptical form, whose ends allow of the said frame being readily slipped in between the bed and bedding or between two articles of bedding, and in connection with said frame a suitable fire-pot of portable construction" (lines 23-29).

Patent for a new and improved matchbox. This design "relates to boxes or cases of the class having folding securing flaps or covers . . . To this end [the] invention comprises . . . a box or case open at one extremity for insertion and removal of its contents, and provided with a slot or opening extending from its open extremity to or nearly to its opposite extremity to permit access to and removal of its contents, and having a folding flap or cover adapted to close its openings and be detachably secured so as to effectually confine and protect the contents of the box" (lines 8-27).

Patent for a new and improved bridle-bit. This design consists "[i]n a bridle-bit, the combination, with the bit-bar, provided with the loops of the angle-levers mounted on the said bar and having their corresponding arms respectively connected by the curb-chain and provided with rein loops or rings and the studs or pins on the levers engaging the loops" (lines 70-76).

Patent for a new and improved buckle and back-band hook. This design "contemplates certain improvements in combined buckles and back-band hooks; and it consists of a buckle having, or to which may be separately applied, a peculiar hook or tongue" (lines 10-14).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad-cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the draw-head, the trip-block pivoted on the upper side of the same, the trigger secured to the upper side of the draw-head, and the spring bearing on the trip-block" (lines 82-86).

Patent for a new and improved door for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the car having the door-opening with its upper and lower edges parallel and inclined upward and inward, and the bolt-keeper secured to the sill of the car, of the door having correspondingly-inclined upper and lower edges, the guide-staple and fulcrum-bracket secured to the door at proper points, the operating-lever pivoted to said bracket, the link-rods and bolt, the [other] link-rod pivoted at its lower end to the operating-lever" (lines 4-14).

Patent for a new and improved railroad-ties. This design "pertains to certain new and useful improvements in railroad-ties, having for its object the production of a metallic tie extremely simple in construction, and by means of which a rail can be readily removed or secured in place and a firm elastic bearing is secured for said rail" (lines 14-20).

Patent for improvements to a previously made patent serial no. 287,764: the improvements would include adjustable feed disks, simple and adjustable means of regulating the feed of the seed, bracing rods for the drill, and improvements in construction of the frame and hopper.

Patent for a new and improved cotton chopper. This design consists "of the wheel having the series of arms, the V-shaped fenders secured thereto, the rim having offsets and tapering side edges, the hoe-bars having rollers, and overlapping hoes at their outer ends" (lines 73-78).

Patent for "a cheap, durable, efficient, and simple brush adapted for use in cotton-gins, the parts of which may readily be assembled or detached for purposes of construction, renewal, replacement, or repair" (lines 9-14).

Patent for a new and improved sprinkler. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the L-shaped nozzle having the longer arm and the shorter arm, the spring-board secured to the side of the [shorter] arm and projecting over the end thereof, and provided with a boss on its upper side, the L-shaped bracket secured to the side of the [shorter] arm and having one end projecting over the spring-valve and provided with a screw-threaded opening, and the thumb-screw inserted through and playing in said opening and having its end swiveled in the boss of the spring-valve" (lines 84-95).

Patent for a new and improved drilling tool for wells. This design "relates to tools for drilling or boring Artesian, oil, and other deep wells; and it has for its object to prevent the loss of drill or auger or any portion of the drill-rods. With this end in view the invention consists in the improved means for connecting the tool to the lower end of the drill-rod" (lines 9-15).

Patent for a new and improved fly-trap. This design "is to produce a fly-trap the bait-pan of which will be operated by certain mechanism to bring it under the trap, and in such a manner that the flies will be compelled to fly into the trap, and thus be captured. Furthermore, the object of the invention is to produce a simple and effective fly-trap" (lines 13-19).

Patent for a new and improved packer. This design consists "[i]n a cotton-packer, the combination of the frame, guides mounted therein, rack-bars moving in the said guides, a press-box and steam-cylinder, and heads secured to the rack-bars and moving in the press-box and cylinder, respectively, cog-wheels of different diameters journaled in the frame and meshing with the rack-bars, and anti-friction rollers pivoted in the guides and bearing against the rack-bars" (lines 4-13).

Patent for a new and improved means for propelling railway cars. This design "relates to motive power for railway-cars, and the purpose thereof is to provide a simple combination of parts whereby each car may be impelled by a separate motor, the entire series throughout a line or train of cars being supplied with energy from a common source, whereby the full horse-power of a steam-boiler may be applied in a manner enabling it to be utilized to the greatest possible advantage and to the utmost extent" (lines 10-20).

Patent for "an instrument for indicating the temperature of an oven, so that the fire may be regulated to secure the required temperature for any particular article" (lines 21-25).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design "relates to double-mold-board plows, such as lister or middle-breaking plows. Its principle features are the depressed center bar, the removable point upon the center bar, and the removable shares" (lines 8-12).

Patent for a new and improved wagon-brake. This design consists "of a suitable support which is attached to the rear axle-tree, the brake which is pivoted to this support, the connecting-rod pivoted to the brake, and the operating lever pivoted upon a supporting bar which extends from one standard to the other . . . The object of [the] invention is to produce a wagon-brake which is simple in construction, effective in operation, and by means of which the driver can instantly apply the brake with great power" (lines 14-25).

Patent for a washing machine so it can "provide a simple and improved device of this character, which can be efficiently operated" (p. 03).

Patent for a new and improved watch-case pendant. This design "is to improve the construction of the bow and crown-holder of stem-winding watches, so that they will be prevented from working loose. Furthermore, to produce a bow and crown-holder which may readily be attached to watches having the ordinary holder thereon, and, finally, to produce a stem which shall be simple of construction, and which may be attached to a watch with but a slight expense" (lines 15-24).
